Plot
As S.S. Mechagodzilla prepares to land, Rohan orders his crew to stay on the ship, including a stubborn Ayan. She mutters that he's been acting strange since Ilsa left. Mechagodzilla touches down beneath a series of platforms built alongside a waterfall. As Rohan leaves with the kaiju eggs, Ayan voices her suspicions to Gen that he's hiding something. Her grandmother believes he's merely stressed and encourages her to distract herself until he returns. Ayan agrees, only to sneak out to investigate. She finds the platforms full of brusque Xiliens; the shopkeeper she speaks to refuses to acknowledge them.
Rohan passes through several Xilien guards to meet Admiral Elvira, who greets him and offers his payment. She reminisces on how he used to follow her everywhere, to his embarrassment. He's surprised at how much the town has changed, to which she explains that they've been extracting dark ore. Rohan is concerned that the work could destabilize the town, but she's unconcerned, offering only that they've paid the town well. Their rapid progress is due to their recent capture of the kaiju Gamagera, who Ayan soon discovers. An Xilien soldier catches her and holds her at gunpoint, only to be shot from behind, the blast also cutting Ayan's cheek. She turns to find her savior, a woman named Frey who rushes past Ayan to assist Gamagera, expressing great concern for the kaiju. Frey quickly sets about removing Xilien devices embedded in Gamagera's skin, explaining to Ayan that the devices are used to capture monsters. She details that the Xiliens had been using Gamagera to dig tunnels for them for weeks to mine dark ore and likely would have worked the monster to death were it not for her intervention. As the kaiju wakes up, she contacts the rest of her troops, who lay siege to the mines. Frey pushes Ayan, awed by her army, out of the path of Gamagera's beam. Elvira orders a counteroffensive, but the Xiliens' rocket launchers only prompt Gamagera to return fire with devastating effect. Frey takes Ayan's hand and leads out of the tunnels while also avoiding Xilien firepower. Commending Ayan for her bravery, Frey offers her a place in their rebellion movement, though Ayan is so distracted by their physical contact that she has to repeat herself. Ayan politely declines, explaining that she has to get back to her ship. Frey draws the Xilien fire to allow Ayan's escape. As she departs, she tells Ayan she's cute and should call her if she makes it out alive.
With the town shaking, Rohan calls Gen for extraction. A boulder falls towards him but is obliterated by Mechagodzilla's shoulder cannons as it rises from the water. Rohan leads nearby townsfolk to safety inside the mech's mouth before Gamagera reaches them. The kaiju's beam hits Mechagodzilla's chest; Gen retaliates with a missile barrage. Ayan calls Gen to beg her not to hurt the kaiju. She admits she's not on the ship and apologizes. Deftly navigating the crumbling town, she lands on Mechagodzilla's face as it grapples with Gamagera. Once she's inside, it disengages and takes off. She offers Gen a local snack and reflects on Frey's comment that the Xiliens destroy everything they touch.
Safe aboard her own ship, Elvira orders the officer in charge of security in the town executed. An underling reports that they've located a kaiju they were searching for nearby: SpaceGodzilla.
