— Frey (Starship Godzilla #3)

Frey is a supporting character in the 2025 IDW Publishing ongoing comic series Starship Godzilla. She is a rebel who seeks to undermine the Xilien Empire.

Personality

A spirited freedom fighter, Frey has dedicated herself to opposing the Xilien Empire and freeing those who have been subjected to their cruelty. She demonstrates great concern for kaiju, immediately rushing to Gamagera's aid upon locating the creature, which had been abused by the Xiliens. In doing so, she initially showed no concern for Ayan and rushed past her to help the kaiju, though she quickly warmed up to Ayan after the latter expressed sympathy for her cause before later commending Ayan's bravery.

History

Starship Godzilla

"Chapter Three: First Date"

On an Xilien-controlled planet, after Ayan discovered the captive kaiju Gamagera in a mine hidden behind a waterfall, she was caught by an Xilien patroller. Before she could be captured, Frey appeared and shot the Xilien dead. Though her blaster fire left Ayan with a cut on her face, Frey promptly rushed past Ayan to assist Gamagera, expressing great concern for the kaiju. Frey quickly set about removing Xilien devices embedded in Gamagera's skin, explaining to Ayan that the devices were used to capture monsters. She detailed that the Xiliens had been using Gamagera to dig tunnels for them for weeks to mine dark ore and likely would have worked the monster to death were it not for Frey's intervention. After freeing Gamagera, Frey contacted the rest of her troops, who initiated a siege on the mines. As Ayan expressed awe at Frey's army, Frey pushed the distracted Ayan out of the path of Gamagera's beam. As the monster laid waste to the Xilien mines and incinerated numerous Xiliens, Frey led Ayan out of the tunnels while also avoiding Xilien firepower. Commending Ayan for her bravery, Frey offered her a place in their rebellion movement, though Ayan politely declined, explaining that she had to get back to her ship. Frey proceeded to tell Ayan that she would draw the Xilien fire to allow Ayan's escape. As she departed, she told Ayan she was cute and asked her to call her if she made it out alive.

"Chapter Four: Return of the King, Part One"

In the Quartz Belt, Frey led a rebel ambush against Admiral Elvira's Xilien fleet as they sought to capture and take control over SpaceGodzilla, a monster of particular interest to Elvira. As the battle escalated, Frey contacted Ayan and requested assistance. Despite the protests of her captain, Ayan remained determined to help and piloted the S.S. Mechagodzilla to the scene. As Mechagodzilla exited hyperspace, they found themselves in the midst of the battle while bearing witness to SpaceGodzilla attacking all parties. Shortly after arrival, they narrowly dodged SpaceGodzilla's beam, only for the blast to strike Frey's ship, leaving her and her crew with only minutes to live. Ayan's captain, Rohan, finally relented and allowed Ayan to save the crew. Ayan donned her spacesuit and directed the rebels to enter Mechagodzilla, reconvening with Frey in the process.

Once all of the rebels were safely aboard, Mechagodzilla speedily and discreetly retreated to Tama 7's crystal desert, the location of the rebel's base. Once they touched down, Frey pulled Ayan away to show her caverns beneath the base where Magma Worms dwelled. Frey confided her fears of the Xiliens finding the Magma Worms and their base, admitting that their fight against the Xilien Empire was often overwhelming. Frey detailed a recent incident in which kaiju eggs they purchased to keep them out of Xilien hands were stolen from them, with Ayan realizing in horror that she and her crew were responsible for the theft, though she did not tell Frey. Frey attempted to share a tender moment with Ayan and kissed her, only for the guilt-ridden Ayan to apologize and depart.

"Chapter Five: Return of the King, Part Two"

Sometime later, the rebel base on Tama 7 came under assault by Elvira's fleet, with the Xiliens having traced an energy signature left behind on Mechagodzilla by SpaceGodzilla, allowing them to finally locate the base. Frey alerted the base to the assault and ordered all units to defensive positions, only to watch in horror as SpaceGodzilla, now under Xilien control, made landfall just outside of their base.
