Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe #1 is a comic book from Marvel Comics. It was published on July 16, 2025.[1]

Description

LOOK OUT NEW YORK! A previously dormant Godzilla has been angrily awoken and begun carving a path of annihilation as Earth's Mightiest Heroes band together to try and stop it's cataclysmic rampage! But when their combined efforts fail to slow the Bringer of Destruction, Earth's heroes are forced to go to extraordinary lengths to try and bring Godzilla down - including joining forces with Earths most devious villains! But will this be enough to stop Godzilla as it tears straight through the Marvel Universe into the Dark Dimension and other realms? Plus, how is the King of the Monsters connected to the mysterious metal, Vibranium, and what does this mean for Wakanda? In the face of an unstoppable force of nature, the Marvel Universe must come together like never before in this earth-shattering fight for Earth's survival. It's all hands on deck in the FIRST of FIVE electrifying chapters in this epic saga! [1]

Plot

The Mole Man's Moloids unearth an unusual form of vibranium infused with unstable molecules and forge a staff for him. His first use of it, however, awakens Godzilla. Following days of earthquakes beneath New York City, the Fantastic Four watch from the Baxter Building as a Celestial emerges from underground. Mister Fantastic, though already aware of its presence, believed it would not awaken for another million years, concluding that its ecosystem must have been disrupted. As the Human Torch attacks the Celestial, Mole Man and his minions erupt to the surface as well, pleading for the Fantastic Four's help against Godzilla, who surfaces next to the Statue of Liberty. He quickly engages the Celestial and tears its head off, petrifying the superheroes. Mole Man instead attacks Godzilla with his staff, managing to cause him pain with the purple blast. Mr. Fantastic knocks him out just before Godzilla tries to step on them all, though the Invisible Woman shields them all. Mr. Fantastic calls upon the X-Men and Avengers and returns to his lab with the staff.

The Avengers—Captain America, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Scarlet Witch, and Quicksilver—arrive minutes later to aid the other three members of the Fantastic Four against Godzilla. The Invisible Woman's forcefield barely hold Godzilla back from advancing while Quicksilver carries civilians away from the battle and the other heroes rain down attacks. Godzilla, untouched, overloads the force field and barrels through the building before him, though Quicksilver reports that he successfully evacuated everyone, even a goldfish. Mr. Fantastics asks the others to lure the monster towards the Baxter Building so he can deploy a last-resort solution. Thor arrives to confront Godzilla, but the King of the Monsters launches him into space with a single swing of his tail; Captain Marvel leaves to recover him.

As Mr. Fantastic readies his Negative Zone portal, he ponders Godzilla's past: the monster has sometimes been purely destructive in the past, but on other occasions he has fought against other malevolent kaiju like Kumonga. Either way, his natural habitat has been disturbed by the Mole Man's discovery of vibranium. Black Panther examines the staff, concluding that it could have only been formed over tens of thousands of years under massive pressure. Meanwhile, Godzilla picks up the Thing and hurls him into the Daily Bugle building, just missing J. Jonah Jameson. Before departing, the Thing jokes that Spider-Man turned into Godzilla after drinking the Lizard's serum, which the editor immediately accepts. Scarlet Witch, her hexes ineffective, suggests calling on Doctor Strange for help, but he replies that he's preoccupied with an interdimensional parasite. Striking Godzilla on the nose with his shield, Captain America makes a stand against the King of the Monsters. Unmoving, the kaiju fires his atomic breath, but Captain America's shield reflects it, opening a hole in his chest and knocking him into a building. Godzilla quickly regenerates the wound, however, and Quicksilver zips over to the Baxter Building with Captain America. Godzilla pursues them, tearing through the structure and causing the portal to swing backwards. Mr. Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Thing, and Captain America all disappear into the Negative Zone.

Scarlet Witch transports Black Panther back to Wakanda to develop a new strategy as Captain Marvel, returning with Thor, encourages the Human Torch to put aside his grief while they try to drive Godzilla out of New York City. Assistance arrives in the form of the New Avengers: Iron Man, two Spider-Men (Peter Parker and Miles Morales), Spider-Woman, Luke Cage, Daredevil, Iron Fist, and Deadpool.
