Frey (Starship Godzilla #3)

Gamagera is an alien kaiju who appears in the 2025 IDW Publishing comic Starship Godzilla. Captured and weaponized by the Xiliens, Gamagera was made to mine dark ore on behalf of her abductors until she was freed by Frey, a leader of an anti-Xilien rebellion force.

Design

Gamagera is a stout, quadrupedal horned monster with a green, frog-like body. Her back is adorned with small barbs and she sports two large brown horns on her head above her eyes. A large, conical, drill-like muzzle has been affixed to her snout, with wires connected to smaller devices attached to her shoulders.

Personality

Upon waking up, Gamagera indiscriminately attacked everything in her vicinity, including the S.S. Mechagodzilla. However, as noted by Ayan, the creature was merely lashing out at her abusers.

Origins

Admiral Elvira indicated that Gamagera was originally found on Derret's sapphire moon. She was then captured and forced to mine dark ore for them on an Xilien-controlled planet.

Starship Godzilla #2

Rohan contacted his client, Admiral Elvira, as she gazed upon the captive Gamagera, overlooked by other Xilien forces.

"Chapter Three: First Date"

On an Xilien-controlled mining planet, as Rohan left the ship to deliver kaiju eggs to their client, Ayan became suspicious and attempted to follow him, but ended up discovering a tunnel system hidden behind a waterfall instead. Upon discovering Gamagera sleeping in the tunnel, Ayan was caught by an Xilien patroller, only to be saved by Frey, who rushed to the kaiju's aid. Frey quickly set about removing Xilien devices embedded in Gamagera's skin, explaining to Ayan that the devices were used to capture monsters. The Xiliens had been using Gamagera to dig tunnels for them for weeks to mine dark ore and likely would have worked the monster to death were it not for Frey's intervention. After freeing Gamagera, Frey contacted the rest of her troops, who ambushed patrolling Xiliens nearby. Upon waking, Gamagera promptly began firing beams at the surrounding area, causing major damage, destabilizing the tunnels, and incinerating Xilien troops in the process.

Soon, Gamagera left the tunnel system and passed through the waterfall, where she happened upon the S.S. Mechagodzilla just as Rohan was directing the townsfolk to seek refuge aboard the vessel. Gamagera fired her beam at the mech, resulting in Gen retaliating from the cockpit by firing missiles. Ayan then contacted Gen and explained that Gamagera was only lashing out at her abusers and begged her not to hurt the monster while she made her way back to the ship. As Mechagodzilla grappled with Gamagera, with Gen struggling to fend off Gamagera without fighting back, Ayan made it back to the ship in one piece, leaping onto Mechagodzilla's head in the midst of the fight. With Ayan safely onboard, Gen promptly flew Mechagodzilla away from the town while Gamagera continued wreaking havoc.

Abilities

Beam

Gamagera can fire a powerful green energy beam from the mechanical muzzle on her snout. It is not revealed whether or not Gamagera generates the beam herself or if it is generated by the device on her face.
