In this issue, our heroes finally reach the safety of high ground as they scale the deadly island's skull-shaped mountain. Plot
At nightfall of their fourth day marooned on a Pacific island, the remaining crew of the U-184 submarine stand before Skull Mountain. Despite its foreboding appearance, to the captain it represents their only hope for survival if not rescue. As they continue their trek they come across a muddy field of human bones. The ship's cook Hugo remarks that they are not the first men to die on the island, and one of the three other remaining crewmen kneels down. He claims there must be hundreds of men dead here, and then spies something too large to be a skull. As he prepares to touch it, it moves and rears up, revealing that it is in fact a strange winged maggot-like creature almost as long as a man. It rises up and devours him while Hugo, Werner, and the Captain can only watch, unaware that they are being surrounded by at least twenty more of them. They all attack the men, with another crewman quickly succumbing while the captain unsheathes a knife and begins stabbing wildly at them. Nothing is left of the two fallen men but their bones.
The captain begins to despair, but the old seaman Werner insists they must reach the peak, and the captain quickly rallies, proclaiming that they must not let "monsters from foreign shores" defeat them. As they climb, the captain thinks on the words of his two surviving crewmen and agrees that while there is hope, he alone must survive with the guilt and the shame of failing his responsibility to his crew, and wishes he had died in the initial wreck.
Just before the peak, the men find a small cave to rest in, the sole survivors of their mission. The captain's mind turns to the gigantic ape beast that has been stalking them from afar. Unbeknownst to him, Kong is very near atop the Skull Mountain. Before lighting a fire, the men search the cave to try and make sure it is safe. They see moonlight from around a corner and emerge in the skull-shaped rock formation's mouth, where to their horror, they see the gigantic form of the beast. Hugo is tired of running, and rushes the ape with an MG 42 machine gun, firing round after round that the monster seems to simply absorb without issue. When the gun runs out of ammunition, Hugo can only stand and watch as Kong grabs him from the cave floor, crushing him in his powerful grip before biting him in two.
Werner and the captain run to the opening at the other side of the cave where they spy some kind of city in the distance. With hope once again in their sights and death at their heels, the two men see only one option, and jump from the cave mouth.

Trivia
- The issue was originally scheduled to publish on October 25, 2023.[3]
- Despite only four men being depicted prior to the maggot attack, a fifth sailor inexplicably appears and gets eaten.
- This issue establishes that there has all along been another sailor named Werner, distinct from the more major character of the same name.
- Evidence of previous visitors to the island having died there seems to be news to one of the sailors. Despite this, a skull clad in a bandana reminiscent of a pirate could be found in the cave where the entire crew sheltered for their first night on the island.
Notes
- ↑ Written as "Chapter Five" on the title page.
