Godzilla: Escape the Deadzone #3 is a comic book from IDW Publishing. It was published on October 15, 2025.[1]

Description

With two mysterious children in tow, the wanderer has broken free from the clutches of the church of Godzilla! Unfortunately, he now finds himself deep in the heart of the deadzone — farther than he’s ever dared travel! He has hundreds of miles and all manner of freaks and monsters between him and a way out. Although... the strangest beings in all the deadzone seem to be the kaiju-controlling kids he now finds in his care.[1]

Plot

The Wanderer concludes his headlong charge into a forest with Glasseater and Runt, abruptly dropping the kids as his claws turn back into fingernails and his dorsal plates recede. The kids quickly recover and chide him for assuming a weaker form in such a dangerous place. Glasseater reveals that she saved his hat, though she plans to keep it. The Wanderer refuses to move until they explain what they are and where they came from. Glasseater is defiant, but Runt tells him that they are the chosen children of the Church of Godzilla, destined to reunite with Godzilla and annihilate humanity. The Wanderer appears stunned, but realizes a Kumongaling is looming behind the kids. He flees with them as they demand he transform again, only to learn he can't control when he does so. Nonetheless, he turns and leaps at the spider monster, grappling with two of its legs before it pins him to a rock with a blast of pink goo. He is surprised by his own reflex to protect the children. He roars defiantly at the monster until it suddenly calms at Runt's touch. The Wanderer is amazed as the boy climbs onto the monster, induces a cavity on its back to open up, and is pulled inside by tentacles. Glasseater celebrates as Runt, now controlling the Kumongaling, frees a stunned Wanderer. She explains that when he found them inside the other two monsters, they were just settling a debate about music.

The Wanderer and Glasseater ride on the Kumongaling's back as it strides to a cave, Runt promptly bursting out of its back when they reach the entrance. Doing so kills the creature, although Glasseater explains over a fire that some of the kaiju they control survive the process. They tell the Wanderer their names again; when he asks if they are nicknames, Glasseater adds that they picked them themselves and Mother A refuses to use them. They share that they have little interest in fulfilling their supposed destiny, routinely running away from the Church in search of freedom and knowledge. The Wanderer promises to get them out of the Deadzone by bringing them to a contact in the outer rim. Runt asks him his own name; he replies that he doesn't have one. Before they can fall asleep, the earth shakes and they realize Godzilla is nearby. Runt bows to him but questions whether the church's texts center humanity too much in describing Godzilla's purpose. He further wonders if Godzilla is simply beyond humanity's understanding. The Wanderer, however, mournfully replies that all he knows about the monster is that it took everything from him. Glasseater comments that the three of them have the same orange eyes, though neither she nor the Wanderer are willing to draw any conclusions from this. She declares that Runt is the only family she needs, and while she's grateful for his help, he shouldn't expect them to ever consider him a father.

At dawn, the Wanderer gazes at his photo, then leads the kids through a swamp.
