Marvel Worldwide Inc., commonly referred to as Marvel Comics, is an American company that publishes comic books and related media. One of the two largest and oldest still-operating American comic book publishers alongside DC Comics, Marvel's vast library of characters includes the likes of Spider-Man, the Hulk, the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, and the X-Men. Most of its characters inhabit a fictional shared universe known as the Marvel Universe, and many have been adapted to other media such as television and film, including the highly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe film and TV franchise. Since 2009, Marvel has been owned by The Walt Disney Company after it acquired its parent company, Marvel Entertainment.
From 1977 to 1979, Marvel Comics published Godzilla, a comic series that integrated the titular kaiju into the Marvel Universe's Earth-616. Though it lost the rights to Godzilla thereafter, an unrecognizably-mutated version of him appeared in four comic issues between 1985 and 1986. Godzilla, somehow no longer mutated, canonically reappeared two decades later in 2007's Mighty Avengers #1, also unlicensed. Marvel regained the rights to the character more than a decade later, in 2024, first using them to reprint its Godzilla series as an omnibus. As a promotion for this, "Godzilla Variant Covers" featuring Godzilla alongside Marvel characters were released for 21 comics across the company's lineup.[1] In 2025, Marvel published its first original Godzilla comics in close to 50 years: a series of six one-shots known collectively as Godzilla vs. Marvel which were set on various disconnected Earths and featured other Toho monsters. The same year, the company debuted the limited series Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe, set on Earth-616[2], which will be followed by another limited series in 2026 titled Godzilla: Infinity Roar. Marvel also holds the comic rights to the Ultra Series, and has published multiple miniseries using the license, including a crossover with the Avengers.
