- ― Mike and Annie discussing her and Dog's backstory (Skull Island episode 4, "Breakfast Fit for a Kong")
Dog is a canid monster who appears in the Netflix Monsterverse animated series Skull Island. He is Annie’s longtime friend and companion and a powerful ally against the island's many threats.
Design
Dog is a stocky, brown-furred mammal who possesses numerous canine and feline characteristics. Dog's body is covered in light brown fur and exhibits tannish-yellow counershading. A thick, dark brown mane covers his neck, shoulders, and the top of his head, and descends down his back until it breaks apart into several dark brown spikes. Near his back spikes, Dog has several brown spots. His legs are thick and muscular and end in paws with four large claws and a single smaller dewclaw. Dog has cat-like ears that protrude from his mane and are pink on the inside. His face is similar to a bulldog, featuring a stubby snout, a small black nose, two large brows, slightly baggy dowels and wrinkles, a large chin, and a prominent underbite, revealing six conical teeth, including two large canines. His eyes are small and have blue irises that have an additional thin red streak around his pupils.
As a puppy, Dog closely resembles his adult form, even having wrinkles and extensive leg muscles, though his legs are stubbier. His mane is much shorter, and his head and ears are proportionally larger. Only Dog's canine teeth protrude from his mouth, and they are shorter and duller than his adult teeth.
Personality
Although not very friendly by nature, Dog is a mostly silent and docile animal who is tolerant of human presence. He is highly protective of Annie, becoming agitated and aggressive if she is ever threatened. He is slow to warm up to other humans, refusing to help Charlie out of a pit, even when asked to by Annie. Despite his disdain for Charlie, he will listen to him should the situation require it. As a puppy, Dog was seemingly friendlier.
Origins
After Dog and Annie's fathers killed each other, Dog was left orphaned as a puppy and bonded with Annie over their shared grief. Dog remained by Annie's side for the next ten years.

Skull Island
"Maritime Pilot"
After Charlie rescued Annie at sea and brought her aboard the Once Upon a Maritime, she asked repeatedly if he or the other members of the crew had seen her dog. Prior to the Titan's attack on the ship, she described the Kraken as bigger than her dog, surprising Cap with the comparison.
"The Last Blank Space on the Map"
As Annie fought off two of Irene's mercenaries, Dog's growl resonated through the jungle of Skull Island. Excited at having heard her companion, Annie let out a series of howls, prompting Dog to arrive at the scene. He swiftly took down the two mercenaries and threw Annie into the air, much to the latter's delight and Charlie's horror.
"What's Up, Croc?"
Charlie and Mike fled through the woods and were soon found by one of the mercenaries. They scuffled, but broke up the fight after hearing Dog's nearby growl to hide in the bushes. The mercenary explained that Dog couldn't be hurt by bullets, killed six of his comrades on the "other island", and pursued them to come to Annie's rescue. Charlie realized with shock that the creature was essentially Annie's dog. As Dog drew closer, the mercenary ran into a river, only to be attacked and eaten by a Galloping Crocodile. After Charlie and Mike survived their encounter with the reptile, Dog suddenly appeared, towering over them with Annie riding on his back. As Mike and Charlie argued, Dog lounged with Annie on the ground nearby, rolling over. Bored, Dog got up suddenly and walked off.
Dog later settled on a cliff and slept. Charlie walked over to the canid, only for him to snort in his sleep. During a conversation in which Annie told Charlie Dog's simple name and explained that she had lived on the other island for long enough to not know how old she was, Dog awakened, growling at Charlie. The canid stared Charlie down, convincing him to go to sleep.
The next day, Annie rode Dog as they prepared to look for food. Dog growled at Charlie again, refusing to allow him to ride on his back, before walking off. At the same time, Irene planned to lure Dog into the territory of a deadly Hawk Monster.
"Breakfast Fit for a Kong"
While Dog and Annie walked through a forest, Mike and Charlie caught the notice of a Giant Dodo. The bird charged, only for Dog to pounce onto it and kill it. While eating the Dodo, Mike asked how Annie met Dog, and she bluntly responded that their fathers killed each other, stunning the boys. She added that Dog had grown significantly since they originally met on her island, which she named "Annie's Island".
Charlie later fell into a pit, but Dog refused to rescue him. When Mike and Annie attempted to do so instead, the trio were menaced by a Giant Ant. Annie fell to the ground next to the ant and feigned helplessness, prompting Dog to jump in and scare it off. Once they all returned to the surface, Dog stalked away from Charlie again, to his dismay. He suddenly grew tense, having sensed mercenaries nearby. To explain why she wasn't eager to unleash Dog on the mercenaries again, Annie brushed away some of his hair to reveal a bullet wound. She instead intended to target Irene. Annie and Dog soon charged into long red grass, where both Sam, Irene's lieutenant, and the Hawk Monster watched them.
"Doggone It"
As he and Charlie ran through the grass, Mike wondered if Annie was using them as bait, while the mercenaries wondered the same of Irene when a flare soared into the air. Dog, with Annie on his back, made his presence known by headbutting one of the mercenaries, but they were quickly surrounded. Annie demanded to see Irene, who promptly knocked her out with a tranquilizer dart before Dog could react. Dog raced towards Irene, but just before he could reach her, the Hawk Monster grabbed him in its talons and carried him away.
Charlie was later abducted by the Hawk Monster, who dropped him off in the same location as Dog. The canid was wary of Charlie, who soothed him, then convinced him to help rescue Annie. The Hawk Monster's distant shriek spooked Dog, but he ultimately descended the platform with Charlie on his back. As he did so, Charlie noticed a mural of Kong, the giant gorilla who had rescued him and Mike from the Galloping Crocodile, battling monsters. Kong then swung past them in the flesh, nearly causing them to fall off the platform's side. Once they reached the ground, Charlie watched Kong sitting inside the temple with a melancholy expression, fiddling with a blood-stained necklace set on an alter. Charlie then found Dog staring at a massive pit in the ground.
"Terms of Endearment"
Ten years ago, Annie and her father August were shipwrecked on an island and menaced by Dog's father, who punched a hole in the remains of the ship. August left to confront him with a rifle, with both perishing in the fight. After Annie buried August, she heard an animal crying and investigated, finding Dog also mourning his parent. Frightened by him, she raced back to the ship. That night, Dog visited her as she was cutting open a package of hot dogs. He ran off with the food at first as she warded him off with the knife, but she convinced him to come back, and they share a meal. Afterwards, they howled at the moon together.
In the present, Annie, handcuffed by Irene's mercenaries, heard a distant Dog howl at the moon and softly howled back. Charlie soon caught up with Dog and scolded him for drawing attention to them. Irene, after revealing to Annie that she was her mother, recalled Dog viciously attacking her mercenaries shortly after they arrived on Annie's Island.
Charlie prepared to set a nearby tree on fire as a diversion while he and Dog rescued Cap, Mike, and Annie. As he tried to ignite it, however, he realized the tree was covered in grey humanoid monsters: Nightboys. They quickly attacked Charlie and Dog, though their numbers were no match for the canid's strength. The fight alerted the camp below, and Annie charged towards them, calling to Dog, who returned her cry. Dog rescued her from the last of a trio of Nightboys, grabbing the monster in his jaws and slamming it repeatedly into the ground. They celebrated their reunion as the mercenaries joined the fight. Annie recalled embracing Dog during a storm when they were younger, promising to keep him safe.
In the aftermath of the battle, Dog tackled Irene to the ground and loomed over her, but she ordered her mercenaries to hold their fire. At Annie's insistence, Irene apologized for shooting them, unleashing the Hawk Monster on Dog, and taking ten years to find Annie. With that, Dog spared her.
"You're Not a King, You're Just a Stupid Animal"
Dog stared blankly as Charlie explained his plan to kill the Kraken and escape the island: steal the necklace to lure an enraged Kong to the shore, forcing a confrontation.
"You'll Never Catch a Monkey That Way"
Annie agreed to help Charlie, believing that Dog will be an asset since he managed to reach Skull Island without the Kraken catching him. After the others make their preparations and say their goodbyes, Annie and Charlie ride atop Dog to Kong's temple. They sidled over to the necklace and Annie grabs it; as planned, an enraged Kong charged after them. Dog evaded several swings from the Titan, but was left clinging to a cliff face after Kong shook a bridge as he crossed it. Dog climbed out and kept going, barely avoiding Kong as he leapt across a gap. Realizing that Dog was slower than usual because of an injury, plus his added weight, Charlie threw himself off the canid.
Annie and Dog drew Kong to the beach, evading Trapdoor Crabs along the way. The ape Titan cut them off at the shoreline and prepared to smash them into the sand, but Annie held up the necklace, prompting him to stop. She then threw it to the ground, and just before Kong could pick it up, the Kraken struck. Annie and Dog found themselves pulled out to sea amidst the battle and struggled to stay afloat. After Kong broke the Kraken's grip underwater and surfaced, he spotted Annie, who had made it to shore, reaching out to Dog, who was still floundering. The gesture reminded Kong of when the dying Skull Islander girl who owned the necklace reached out to him. A wave pulled Dog under, but Kong intervened, scooping him up and depositing him on the shore. After embracing Dog, Annie prepared to apologize to Kong, but was cut off by the Kraken's return. Kong ultimately triumphed, ripping the Kraken in half. He carelessly threw its remains towards the shore, causing a tidal wave that threatened to drown Dog and Annie. Dog became separated from Annie, who hit her head on a rock and fell unconscious.
Abilities
Physical abilities
Dog is able to leap and lunge long distances. He frequently bites and scratches his foes.
Intelligence
Dog is able to understand and follow Annie's orders. He is known to ambush his victims, demonstrated against some of Irene's mercenaries and a Giant Dodo.
Durability
Dog is resistant to gunfire, though he can be injured by it; one of Irene's mercenaries believed him to be bulletproof. He shrugged off attacks from multiple Nightboys and survived being swept by large waves during Kong's fight with the Kraken.
Swimming
According to Annie, Dog is an adept swimmer. He was capable of swimming from his native island to Skull Island and even followed her from there to the U.S. mainland.
Weaknesses
Dog is accustomed to riding with only Annie on his back, and was not able to move as quickly when Charlie joined her. He struggled to stay afloat amidst the strong waves and currents generated during Kong's fight with the Kraken, and would have drowned had Kong not saved him. When Kong tossed the Kraken's corpse after killing it, the wave generated from its impact in the water swept him away from Annie.

Return to Skull Island
Issue #1
After Kong's battle with the Kraken, Annie was airlifted from Skull Island for medical attention. Dog followed the helicopter across the ocean.
Issue #2
Annie made her way to her family's barn as Irene and Sam watched her from afar. There she visited Dog, who was sitting in a containment cell. Dog looked at her sadly as Annie left to meet with Mike and set the date where they would escape with Dog back to Skull Island and rescue Charlie and Cap. He reacted with excitement as he climbed into the back of the truck that would take them to the harbor. Once there, he tentatively emerged, and was startled when Irene and Sam's mercenary team flashed their headlights.
Issue #3
Annie, Mike, Irene, Sam, and Mike's friend Guy set sail for Skull Island aboard Leviathan, the ship Mike had chartered from Druid, a shady captain. As they neared the island, Dog burst from the water with a great white shark in his jaws and bit its head off as he displayed it for Annie. As Dog climbed aboard, he threw the head in Druid's direction, showering him with blood. Once they passed through the storm system surrounding the island, both Annie and Dog sensed something was amiss.
Dog played on a Skull Island beach before getting up to explore the island, Annie riding on his back. As they left, they gave a threatening look at Druid, warning him not to attack Irene. As their party headed deep into the forest, following spray-painted arrows Charlie had left, they were ambushed by a group of mole monsters. Dog fought well against them, crushing two in his jaws at once, and with the help of Charlie's group they were able to defend themselves until the remaining monsters fled, fearful of the presence of Yuggoth, a fungal Titan challenging the weakened Kong for rule of Skull Island.
Issue #4
Dog stood on a cliffside overlooking the river where Kaia's people were rowing on their way to the safety of Annie's Island—and where Yuggoth waited to ambush them with its mind-controlled army of monsters. Defying Irene, who sought to leave the island now that they had found Charlie and Cap, Annie and Charlie rode Dog down to the river in order to warn the Skull Islanders. Galloping Crocodiles following them, upending one of the boats as the Skull Islanders hurried ashore. Dog leapt into the fray, battling two of the reptiles at once. Afterwards, he carried numerous Skull Island children on his back to safety as Kong again battled Yuggoth. Cap explained to Charlie and Annie that they had laid a trap for Yuggoth over a chasm leading to Hollow Earth and needed to lure both Titans there. Dog, Annie, and Charlie again goaded Kong into chasing them, Yuggoth in pursuit as well. Once the battling Titans reached the edge of the chasm, Sam detonated explosives around them, Yuggoth falling back into Hollow Earth while Kong narrowly avoided the same fate. The group soon discovered, however, that Druid had left with Leviathan, leading them all stranded on the island again.
Escape from Skull Island
Issue #1
Annie rode Dog to rescue Charlie from a giant insect monster while Kaia, riding a flower-antlered deer, did the same with Mike. When they returned to camp, Dog rested with a smile on his face as Annie pet him.
