Design

Svyatogor is a giant old man with a thick gray beard. Like real Slavic medieval warriors, he wears a pointed helmet, metal chainmail, a long cloak, and long pants. In the 1960 comic adaptation, he wears blue shorts.

History

Ilya Muromets

Aged and weakened, Svyatogor rode his horse through the Holy Mountains and met pilgrims on his way. They asked when he would come down to protect defenseless people from enemies. Svyatogor sadly replied that Mother Earth could not hold him, and began to fall through the rocks. Feeling his strength waning, he placed the magic sword near him and asked the pilgrims to give it to a valiant warrior if they met one. They agreed and promised that they would always remember him. Svyatogor and his horse turned into a giant rock.
