The Sirenjaw is a giant crocodilian superspecies that first appeared in the second issue of the 2017 Legendary Comics series Skull Island: The Birth of Kong.

Name

The Sirenjaw's cryptozoological classification, Gigantus Crocodiliad, comes from the English words "gigantic" and "crocodilian."

Design

The Sirenjaw is a large crocodile-like monster covered in green vegetation. It has a large jaw with sharp teeth, and a pair of small orange eyes. When it is half in water, it resembles an island.

In Godzilla x Kong: Titan Chasers, the Sirenjaw and Young Sirenjaw have identical models. Their skin is gray, and their chins and entire backs are covered by vegetation with tree roots sticking out. The only difference between them is their size; when standing quadrupedally the Sirenjaw is several times taller than a human, while the Young Sirenjaw is about the same height as one. The Mature Sirenjaws which can appear on the map as raids, meanwhile, dwarf player outposts in size and have entire trees sprouting from their backs. As they mature, Sirenjaws begin to grow trees on their back, with a blanket of lichen and mosses developing around their mouths, giving it an appearance of a natural cave.

Behavior

Sirenjaws are omnivores and ambush predators.[1] The specimen in Skull Island: The Birth of Kong had enough self-preservation to break off its attack on a group of Iwi and Monarch agents when it heard Kong's roar, although the Titan killed it anyway. In general, they act similar to alligators and crocodiles, although they are less inclined to interact with others of their kind or even move as they age.[5] Some animals choose to live on the backs of mature Sirenjaws who have become overgrown with greenery, as the creatures feed on their predators, although they must be small enough to escape the Sirenjaws' notice or be able to cling to their sides when they turn over.[6] They count Mire Squids among their prey, although older and larger Mire Squids sometimes prevail in these confrontations.[3] By maturity, Sirenjaws are able to lie still enough to deceive any onlookers and even each other. They rely heavily on being able to trick prey into their jaws; because of this, mature Sirenjaws live in areas with high Titan activity due to the high radiation causing their groves to grow back from a hunt in a matter of days. They will employ sonic roars to disorient more evasive prey.[2]

History

Skull Island: The Birth of Kong

"The Mountain Who Thunders Death"

The Monarch group and the Iwi were on something they thought was an island, but then it turned out the island was actually a Sirenjaw. The monster attacked the Monarch group and the Iwi, but then retreated as it heard King Kong's roar.

"Valley of the Fallen Gods"

Aaron Brooks and the Monarch team followed the sound of Kong's roar, hoping to see him in person, but found only the carcass of the Sirenjaw that had attacked them, killed by Kong. Several Psychovultures and Death Jackals descended on the area to feed on the corpse, prompting the humans to leave.

Abilities

Physical abilities

Sirenjaws attack through biting or thrashing.[7] In Godzilla x Kong: Titan Chasers, Sirenjaws are able to generate shockwaves by rearing up and slamming the ground with their forelimbs, an attack called Slam.

Amphibiousnes

The Sirenjaw are capable of swimming, often dwelling in the water.

Camouflage

Sirenjaws who have reached maturity are so inactive that flora will grow on their backs.[5] When partially submerged, a Sirenjaw can be easily mistaken for an island or section of shoreline; even its open jaws resemble a cave.[5] Consequently, prey will sometimes wander directly into its mouth, and it will throw sufficiently large animals off its back and devour them before they can escape onto land.[5] One specimen attempted the latter technique with a team led by Aaron Brooks, although the humans fell back onto land and outran it long enough for Kong to intervene.

Sonic Siren

In Godzilla x Kong: Titan Chasers, Sirenjaws are capable of emitting a sonic attack from their mouths called a Sonic Siren, which can inflict intense damage to enemies and stun them for one turn. However, this attack also stuns the Sirenjaw for one turn and makes it the target of enemy attacks for three turns. Field notes also state that Mature Sirenjaws use their roars as sonic booms to deafen and disorient prey that are highly evasive.
