The Amberpede is a centipede superspecies that appears in episode 8 of the 2023 Netflix Original animated Monsterverse series Skull Island, entitled "You'll Never Catch a Monkey That Way". An Amberpede ambushed Cap but was shot in the head with a flare gun by Mike, scaring it off.
Name
While never named onscreen, the animal is referred to as "Amberpede" in the Kong: Skull Island - Creature Codex. The name is a combination of the words "amber" and "centipede", referring to the creature's color and appearance.[1]
Design
Amberpedes are a centipede superspecies with a body structure resembling that of an Arizona desert centipede without antennae. The creatures have an orange underbelly, a black exoskeleton, and a pair of reddish legs per body segment. The Amberpede in Skull Island has four red eyes, while in the Kong: Skull Island - Creature Codex they are shown to only have two. The Creature Codex also depicts them with a black underbelly, a golden exoskeleton, and antennae. The plates on their bodies are stated to be made of a semi-translucent gemlike substance that looks like amber. Amberpedes have six front forelimbs and two-foot-long sharp mandibles which are all tipped with durable dark chitin.[1]
Behavior
Amberpedes are swift venomous predators on Skull Island that usually prey on creatures the same size as them or smaller. The superspecies is venomous, injecting venom into victims and essentially turning their blood into a thick soup. While the venom isn't immediately lethal, it slows and incapacitates victims. The Iwi and some cryptozoologists harvest this venom to create medicine for everything short of stopping hemorrhages and sealing amputated limbs. The Amberpedes' forelimbs allow them to easily stab through most creatures' hides and climb onto almost any substance. Their nests can be found in numerous locations beneath Skull Island. The creatures come together seasonally with groups of a dozen or more engaging in brutal fights for breeding purposes that can last for hours. They then go back to their nests to lay eggs.[1]
In Skull Island, despite showing an aggressive demeanor towards Cap, the Amberpede was quick to flee after being shot in the head by a flare from Mike.

Skull Island
"You'll Never Catch a Monkey That Way"
An Amberpede ambushed Cap while he was searching for Charlie. Drawing a pocket knife, Cap prepared to defend himself, but before it could strike, a flare gun round suddenly lodged itself in the Amberpede's head. As it fled, he turned to find a still-sickly Mike, who blew smoke from the barrel before collapsing.
Abilities
Venomous bite
An Amberpede's mandibles can inject victims with venom upon biting them. This can incapacitate the prey by turning their blood into a thick soup. However, this venom can be harvested by humans and used as a medicine for sealing wounds.[1]
Physical abilities
The forelimbs of an Amberpede can puncture through almost any creature's hide and cling onto most substances.[1]
Burrowing
Amberpedes are capable of burrowing underground to build their nests.[1]
Durability
Most of an Amberpede's body is made of a dense, flexible and rock-solid material.[1]
Weaknesses
An Amberpede was shot in the head with a flare gun by Mike, causing it to flee.
