Hangyolas (ハンギョラス,   Hangyorasu) is an aquatic kaiju created by Nikkatsu that first appeared in the 2010 Nikkatsu film, Death Kappa.

Design

Hangyolas is a bipedal monster who combines elements of dinosaurs, fish, and dragons. He is mostly blue in color, with gold ridges on his torso. Hangyolas has numerous red and yellow fins on his body, including his tail, his forearms, and his legs. A mane-like fin runs up his spine and over the top of his head, and a central fin runs down the midline of his torso. He possesses a pair of fins on the sides of his face, as well as gold spiral adornments behind his eyes, pronounced red "eyebrow" fins, and two red spikes on his chin.

History

Heisei era

Death Kappa

When a nuclear explosion mutated numerous Umihiko, the creatures combined to form Hangyolas. The monster proceeded to rampage through Yokohama, resisting everything the JSDF could throw at him whilst inflicting massive amounts of destruction with his fire breath. However, the same explosion had also mutated a Kappa into Death Kappa. The two faced each other in battle, with Death Kappa emerging victorious.

Abilities

Fire breath

Hangyolas can expel a concentrated stream of fire from his mouth, capable of destroying almost any material it comes into contact with.

Physical abilities

In close-quarters combat, Hangyolas was well-matched to Death Kappa, and demonstrated the ability to use numerous fighting techniques, including punches, kicks, clotheslines, slams and headbutts. He also bit one of Death Kappa's fingers and repeatedly bit his face in the second half of their fight. Hangyolas also demonstrates the intelligence to use objects in the environment as weapons; after observing Death Kappa fashioning a chimney into a pair of nunchaku, he immediately responded by pulling an electrical pylon out of the ground and struck Death Kappa over the head with it.

Durability

Hangyolas possesses an impressive degree of durability, able to shrug off almost any human weaponry sent his way, including a concentrated barrage from a detachment of tanks and air-to-ground missiles fired by F-104 Starfighter jets, with the attacks slowing his advance but leaving him completely unharmed. Even the laser beams fired by the Gorgon Monster Death Ray only succeeded in inflicting mild pain and briefly stunning him. He also shrugged off the pain from having his tail ripped off by Death Kappa and kept fighting without any noticeable difference in strength.

Weaknesses

Although he can survive almost any other attack, Hangyolas appears to be vulnerable to his own fire. Death Kappa was ultimately able to defeat and destroy Hangyolas by walking towards him while using his hands to push the jet of flame backwards and into Hangyolas's mouth, causing him to be completely destroyed in a massive explosion. While fighting Death Kappa, Hangyolas also became distracted after he threw his opponent into a building, stopping the fight to turn around and cheer, inadvertently giving Death Kappa a chance to get back up.
