The Shocker Squid is a fictional species of electricity-generating cephalopod introduced in the 2023 Monsterverse tabletop role-playing game Kong: Skull Island Cinematic Adventure.

Name

The name of the Shocker Squid comes from their close relation to the Humboldt squid and ability to send electromagnetic currents through their tentacles.

Design

The design of Shocker Squids does not drastically differ from that of regular squids, although they do have some key differences. Their entire bodies are blue and glow bright blue with bioluminescent specks. Their eyes are yellow and, like their real-world counterparts, have horizontal slit pupils. Their tentacles are covered in suction cups on the undersides and the top of their head ends in several small offshoots.

Behavior

According to Monarch, Shocker Squids usually travel in groups, although they may occasionally be seen separated from their schools. They use their electrogenic pads to kill smaller prey and stun larger prey. Shocker Squids differ greatly in expressing aggression, with some reported as being friendly, while others have attacked divers in violent feeding frenzies.[1]

History

Monsterverse

"Sliver of the Skull"

A school of Shocker Squids attacked the Compass Rose just off the coast of Skull Island, damaging one of the rudder posts and shorting out one of the ship's main electrical systems. Some of the creatures died during the attack. Later on, after the heroes boarded the vessel and dealt with a Death Jackal, six Shocker Squids returned and entered the flooding ship. Eventually, the Compass Rose ran aground on Skull Island. Snarehunters carried dead Shocker Squids back to their nest, infecting all of the ants in the colony.

Abilities

Physical abilities

Shocker Squids are able to bite their targets using their beaks. They also make use of their tentacles, which are useful due to their signature bioelectric abilities.

Electrogenesis

The squids can discharge electromagnetic charges of up to 700 volts through their arms to electrocute prey.[1]

Ink

Shocker Squids can produce clouds of ink with a 20-foot radius to obscure their opponents' vision.[1]
