Trikonicorn
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Trikonicorn is a seed pod superspecies that briefly appeared as a petrified head[1] in the 2017 Legendary Pictures film Kong: Skull Island. It was later identified as a Trikonicorn in the 2025 book Kong: Skull Island - Creature Codex.
Name
While never named onscreen, the animal is called a Trikonicorn in the Kong: Skull Island - Creature Codex. This name, as well as the Trikon tree from which the superspecies originates, combine the words "Triceratops" and "acorn". The Trikonicorns' cryptozoological classification, Quercium tricerati, evokes "quercus", the genus that contains oak trees, and Triceratops. [1]
Design
Trikonicorns have a long pinecone-like body covered in overlapping reddish-brown plates, and a large three-horned head. A frill as hard as iron extends from behind the head and slightly curves forward. When petrified, the head looks almost identical to a Triceratops skull, albeit much bigger. The superspecies originates from the Trikon tree, which is among the tallest plants on Skull Island. Up to three Trikonicorns can be found hanging (similarly in appearance to cocoons) from specific meristematic points on the upper branches of a Trikon tree when they're produced. The art of the Trikonicorn in the Kong: Skull Island - Creature Codex is missing a frill, implying that, like acorns, not all Trikonicorns are identical.[1]
Behavior
Trikonicorns are a type of semi-sentient florafauna seed pod found on Skull Island. Three of them grow at a time from the rare Trikon tree over a period of twenty years. Trikons release chemicals to prevent other trees from growing near them. Once fully matured, the Trikonicorns fall to the ground and begin aggressively burrowing and plowing away upon coming into contact with the Trikon tree's chemicals. They move by undulating forward like worms. The creatures will attack anything that is potentially dangerous to them in their path. When a Trikonicorn is far enough away from their parent, they burrow into the ground and die. Their bodies decompose and provide nutrients for the seed within them. The durable head plate, however, resists decomposition and can become petrified over time. Trikon trees are considered sacred by the Iwi, but harvesting one could have major consequences due to their rarity and slow reproduction method.[1]
History
- Kong: Skull Island (2017) [petrified remains]
Monsterverse
Kong: Skull Island

The petrified remains of a Trikonicorn rested in the Valley of the Fallen Gods on Skull Island. When a Skullcrawler attacked the Monarch expedition traveling through the valley in 1973, a soldier mounted his machine gun on top of it. The high-caliber bullets earned the Skullcrawler's attention, and it barreled into the Trikonocorn's remains, smashing the head apart and sending the solider flying.
Abilities
Physical abilities
Trikonicorns can be very dangerous to anything in front of them as they smash through everything that blocks their path.[1]
Burrowing
Trikonicorns are able to burrow underground, specifically doing so when they are ready to die.[1]
Allelopathy
The Trikon tree is allelopathic, releasing chemicals to stop other trees from growing close by and to let Trikonicorns know when to start burrowing.[1]
Durability
The Trikon tree's wood is quite durable and rock-solid due to its carbon microstructures. The head plate of a Trikonicorn can persist well after the creature's death as it is as strong as metal.[1] However, Skullcrawlers are capable of shattering their petrified remains.
