Life is always an uphill battle—which is far more true on Skull Island than it is anywhere else on the planet. And it is especially true for one of the simplest of the florafauna species: one commonly known as the “Ivy Dragon.”

The Ivy Dragon is a seadragon superspecies that was first introduced in the 2025 Monsterverse bestiary book Kong: Skull Island - Creature Codex.
Name
The Ivy Dragons' cryptozoological classification, Phytulus toxicum, originates from the words "Phycodurus", the genus for the Leafy Seadragon, and "toxicum", the Latin for "poison."[1]
Design
The Ivy Dragon shares a slight resemblance with its distant relative, the leafy seadragon. The superspecies is made up of a yellow-green "central cone" with a tail, purple and dark-green leaf-like wings that emerge from three sides, and a head with a crown of spikes around it, a single horn, and a long snout. Two larger wings sit near the top of the body.[1]
Behavior
The Ivy Dragon is an insectivorous florafauna superspecies that resides in freshwater rivers which flow down from higher-altitude regions on Skull Island. Its internal organs are housed within the "central cone" of its body. The creatures' wings are covered in a toxin like that of poison ivy or poison oak. The superspecies uses these wings to glide down waterfalls and for defense. They can also sense brackish and salt water, using this ability to fly back to the mouth of their home river if they ever end up in a dangerous area. Flashgulls, Psychovultures, Leafwings, and other predators on Skull Island often hunt Ivy Dragons.[1]
Abilities
Debilitating toxin
Ivy Dragons fight back against enemies by hitting them with their wings in an attack known as the Wing Buffet. This causes their opponent to come in contact with the creature's toxin, poisoning them for one day. An aid kit or external remedy can cure this.[1]
Adept swimmer and flight
Ivy Dragons are capable of swimming and flying, moving fastest when swimming. They can also travel on land, but are much slower. [1]
