Titan X (怪獣X Kaijū Ekkusu, lit. "Monster X")[2] is a mythical Titan[1] who serves as the main antagonist of the 2026 second season of Apple TV's Monsterverse television series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
Name
Apple TV revealed Titan X's name in a press release accompanying the release of a trailer for season 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.[1]
Of the process behind naming the show's Titans, including Titan X, executive producer Tory Tunnell told SFX magazine:
"We've designed [a Titan], but only in the post process will we say, 'Okay, let's come through and see what that will be.' And that is really fun. There are always some outrageous contenders, like 'How did this end up on the list?', and then sometimes that's exactly the one we go with. We're always trying to have the names be somewhat intuitive, or [in this case] feel like it's a more Latin-based name. We're thinking about what makes sense, and then you always have a code name, and then suddenly it just feels like that's the name".[3]
The cult that worships the titan refers to it as Co-cai, a name likely derived from Coi Coi-Vilu, the god of water in Mapuche mythology.
Development
When the second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters was in early production, the production team knew they wanted to feature an aquatic creature. Inspirations for designing Titan X included bluebottles, eels, and cephalopods such as squids and octopuses. Creature designer Steve Boyle, who also created a 1:1-scale practical model of the Scarabs for VFX reference, sculpted pieces of Titan X to have the same texture, color, and translucency as them to display their symbiotic relationship. iPad and iPhone LIDAR scanners were used to scan the environments that Titan X's CG model would be dropped into.[4]
Design
Titan X is a tentacled, aquatic creature with a massive snaggletoothed reptilian head and a bioluminescence that can change color glowing throughout its body. Its hide is adorned with rows of sharp pointed purple crystals, some of which emerge from the back of the head and from beneath the chin. Titan X's skin is a dark pale blue with a faint mauve color on its back. The Titan's six tentacles are armed with enormous hooks like those of a colossal squid, albeit serrated on two edges and positioned on both the topside and the underside of the tentacles. The front pair of tentacles branch out into two around the halfway point. Sets of tendrils similar to that of a Portuguese man o' war emerge from its underside. Three curved siphon-like tubes extend out from each of the creature's sides. An armored plate rests on the Titan's back and ends in a sharp point. Its tail is short and resembles a downward pointing blade. Titan X possesses a pair of crystalline horns which curve backwards on its snout. Most prominently, Titan X possesses two glowing blue eyes that each possess a pair of irises and pupils merged together like a sideways "8".
Origins
Prior to 1957, Titan X frequently appeared near the village of Santa Soledad in Chile along with its Scarabs, leading the villagers to worship it as a deity.

In 1957, when Bill and Keiko Randa and Lee Shaw were investigating Santa Soledad, Lucía revealed the connection the village had to Titan X and the Scarabs, showing them a cave painting with the Titan. "Cause and Effect" Bill theorized that these cave paintings also tracked Titan X's migration routes and went to Santiago to confirm it, while Keiko and Lee remained behind to continue investigating the village. Later that night, following the Santa Soledad festival, Titan X arrived in the waters outside Santa Soledad, attacking Keiko and Lee as they attempted to escape the village. "Resonance"
In 2017, Cate, Kentaro, and Hiroshi Randa and May Olowe-Hewitt attempted to rescue Lee from Axis Mundi by generating a portal between it and the surface at an Apex Cybernetics base on Skull Island; however, they accidentally awakened Titan X, who was resting in a mountain in Axis Mundi, and the Titan passed through the portal with him. Soon after, Titan X killed Natalia Verdugo, before taking to the ocean around Skull Island, with Kong in close pursuit until the ancient Titan reached waters too deep for Kong to follow. "Cause and Effect" Titan X continued across the Pacific Ocean, and Monarch followed it aboard Outpost 18 at Lee's insistence. Titan X was approaching the Strait of Malacca in the Indian Ocean when it increased speed, endangering several vessels gathered in the strait, and so following an impassioned plea from Keiko, Outpost 18 increased speed to follow it. A drone was sent from Outpost 18, modified to produce a low frequency to try and lead Titan X away from the strait, but Titan X destroyed it and continued on its course. However, a Scarab within Outpost 18 sent out a vibration from within the ship, causing Titan X to turn back to retrieve the Scarab, heading straight for the Monarch vessel. Lee took the Scarab onto an inflatable boat, leading Titan X away from Outpost 18 before jettisoning the Scarab into the ocean. As Titan X was retrieving the Scarab, it generated a large wave that almost engulfed Lee's boat. Eventually, the Scarab swam onto Titan X's body as the Titan swam alongside it, joining a number of other Scarabs. "Resonance"
