The Scarab (スカラベ Sukarabe) is an unknown superspecies that first appeared in the 11th episode of the Apple TV Monsterverse television series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
Name
The Scarab's name was exclusively revealed in a Collider article.[1] Its name is shared with a family of beetles. They are also variably called Sea Scarabs in Godzilla x Kong: Titan Chasers.
Design
The Scarabs are crustacean-like creatures that share some similarities with Titan X. Their shells are trilobite-like and have rows of crystalline spikes across them. The large dark blue eyes of a Scarab have faint hexagonal patterns on them like that of an arthropod but bigger. Like Titan X, two short horns rest on the creature's head. Their mouth sits just below their shell and is filled with small sharp teeth. Multiple spikes protrude from their chin and two more extend outwards from either side of their maw. A Scarab has two pairs of purple bendy tentacle-like legs and several tendrils. The creature's short tail ends in two long spikes.
Origins
Sometime before the events of the series, the Scarabs would frequently emerge near the village of Santa Soledad in Chile along with their master, Titan X.

Monsterverse
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters
In 1957, Bill and Keiko Randa and Lee Shaw were investigating the village of Santa Soledad. Bill attempted to get a picture of a Scarab mounted up in a bar, drawing the ire of a local man, Tomás. Later, Lucía revealed to the three Monarch members the connection the village had to the Scarabs and Titan X, during which fossilized Scarabs could be seen in the cave walls and Scarabs were depicted through cave paintings. "Cause and Effect" The next night, after a large fish was gutted in the center of Santa Soledad as part of the village festival, a large group of Scarabs emerged in the cave and rushed into the village to get to the gutted fish, with Keiko and Lee right in their path. "Resonance"
In 2017, several Scarabs passed through a portal between Axis Mundi and the surface generated at an Apex Cybernetics facility on Skull Island, angering Kong and prompting him to attack the facility. Kong kills one of the Scarabs by punching it. Later, when May Olowe-Hewitt, Cate, Kentaro, and Hiroshi Randa returned to the facility to bring Lee back from Axis Mundi, many Scarabs―along with Titan X―accidentally passed through the portal with him. One of the Scarabs got inside the Operation Hourglass pod with Lee as he was escaping Axis Mundi, and after a brief struggle, Lee managed to kill the Scarab. "Cause and Effect" A Scarab managed to get aboard Outpost 18 and found its way into the lower floors. There, it killed a doctor that was doing his rounds. Soon after, the Scarab turned its attention to Cate, who ran from it before getting a fire extinguisher to try and fend it off. Kentaro and May arrived to help Cate, Kentaro shooting the Scarab with a signal flare. Cate struck the Scarab with the fire extinguisher before May held her back, and Kentaro shot the Scarab a second time. Cornered and injured, the Scarab let out a loud vibration, calling to Titan X. With Titan X heading straight for Outpost 18, Lee took the Scarab and wrapped it in a cloth, before boarding a rigid inflatable boat with it. After leading Titan X far enough away from Outpost 18, Lee jettisoned the Scarab into the ocean for Titan X to take it back. "Resonance"
Abilities
Physical abilities
Amphibiousness
Scarabs are suited to travel both in water and on land. Their tentacle-like appendages grant them high running speeds, with a pack of them outrunning Lee Shaw as he made his way to the Operation Hourglass pod. They are also able to scale a variety of surfaces, seen when they ran up trees in Axis Mundi and attempted to climb up Shaw as he ascended the pod, and later the one in Outpost 18 easily climbed along the walls and ceiling of the vessel.
Bite
In Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, the Scarab that got in the Operation Hourglass pod with Lee bit him, causing him to cry out in pain. According to Godzilla x Kong: Titan Chasers, Scarabs have "mouths bristling full of needle-like teeth" which are "capable of doing serious damage to anyone caught in their wake." In the game, the creatures' Basic Attack is a bite called Perforating Bite, which deals a minimum of 100% damage (increased with its Rank) and generates one Action Point (AP).
Sonic Cry
The Scarabs are capable of emitting a loud vibration that can alert Titan X. This call was able to shake the entirety of Outpost 18.[2] In Titan Chasers, this is turned into an offensive ability called Sonic Cry. Costing the Scarab three AP to perform, it is a single-target attack which deals 50% damage by default, or 100% damage if any of its team members are damaged.
Weaknesses
The Scarabs are relatively fragile in comparison to other superspecies, as Lee Shaw was able to rip one in half with some effort. Cate and Kentaro were also able to injure one with a flare gun and a fire extinguisher.

A Scarab can be recruited into the player's roster during the Monarch: Legacy of Monsters tie-in event by gathering ten Scarab Shards, which are also used to increase its Rank. Ten Shards are awarded from completing the first tier of the Legacy of Monsters Explorer Pass or from redeeming the promo code "LEGACYOFMONSTERS," and more can be gained from further tiers of the Pass and from earning 750,000 or 1,250,000 Points in the Spawn of the Deep challenge. Scarab Lairs also appear on the map to be battled for Ancient Bio-acoustics and other resources, and Scarabs appear as enemies in the campaign The Restless Ocean, specifically:
