Sherry Dottsman is a supporting character in the 2025 IDW Publishing ongoing comic series Godzilla: Escape the Deadzone. A preteen girl in love with Godzilla, she traveled to the Deadzone in hopes of forming a relationship with him, but found herself mutated into a giantess by Kai-Sei energy.

Design

Despite having been mutated by Kai-Sei energy, Sherry resembles a normal preteen girl with black hair, round glasses, and braces, with her only change in appearance being her size. She usually wears a short-sleeved shirt and lace-up shoes. Upon entering the Deadzone, she wore many layers of clothing to protect herself from the Kai-Sei energy, although this did not stop it from mutating her regardless, as her clothes simply grew with her.

Personality

Sherry is a bubbly girl with a bold personality. Before entering the Deadzone, she was previously bullied for her interest in comics, though she attempted to stand up for herself before the confrontation was cut short by Godzilla's appearance. Though despondent by her giant size and inability to locate Godzilla, she was excited to talk with the Wanderer, Runt, and Glasseater, eager to share her story and invite them to her tent.

Sherry's parasocial relationship with Godzilla was love at first sight. She quickly became obsessed with the monster after witnessing it in person, and began tracking its every move, collecting its merchandise, and watching the movies made about it. She admired Godzilla's strength and perceived intolerance of disrespect.

History

Godzilla: Escape the Deadzone

Issue #4

While traversing a desert in the Deadzone, the Wanderer, Glasseater, and Runt encountered a giant, 40-foot young girl bawling. Though the Wanderer was immediately irritated by her sobbing and wanted the children to use their powers to get her under control, Runt calmly approached her and asked to know more about her, intrigued by her appearance. The giant girl revealed her name to be Sherry Dottsman and explained that she used to be a normal girl. Following an encounter with Godzilla in her hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Sherry details that she became enamored with the King of the Monsters, reading all news about it and collecting merchandise based on the monster. As her obsession grew, she felt a need to see Godzilla in person and ran away from home to venture into the Deadzone. With the help of a cyborg woman, Sherry successfully infiltrated the Deadzone using underground tunnels to bypass the walls. Despite wearing multiple layers of clothing in efforts to protect herself from exposure to the Deadzone's volatile Kai-Sei energy, Sherry and the contents of her tent were mutated and grew drastically in size. Since her mutation, however, she has proven unable to locate Godzilla. Though Runt was charmed by her passion for Godzilla, Glasseater described it as "disturbing".

Sherry was stunned to learn that human societies lived in the Deadzone, revealing that nobody in the outside world believed the Deadzone to be anything more than a desolate wasteland populated only by kaiju, devastating the Wanderer. Sherry subsequently invited the trio to her giant tent, revealing the data she collected on Godzilla as well as a stockpile of weapons she gathered to keep them out of the hands of kaiju poachers. Though the Wanderer prepared to leave, Sherry guilted him and the twins into staying by detailing how lonely she had been by herself. That night, as Sherry and Runt bonded, a flaming arrow was shot into the tent, setting it ablaze. The occupants quickly scrambled out, only for Sherry and Runt to be ensnared in a trap before being pulled away into the darkness of night by an unseen force, theorized by Glasseater to be poachers. Glasseater and the Wanderer resolved to go after them.

Issue #5

Sherry and Runt were transported to a dark facility in a mysterious town, where a cage promptly fell over them upon arrival. The two then met a soft-spoken three-eyed man named Hue, who identified himself as their keeper and revealed additional cages containing kaiju. Hue cryptically informed them that if they wanted freedom, they had to be prepared to fight for it. The duo subsequently discovered that they had been transported to a town that held kaiju fights to entertain the populace as Sherry was forced into a great arena to contend against Baragon and the Wanderer, who was also captured by the townsfolk while seeking Runt and Sherry. While scrambling to get away from Baragon, Sherry inadvertently kicked the Wanderer before narrowly avoiding a tail whip from Baragon. Upon recovering, the Wanderer leapt to Sherry's aid and slashed Baragon's face while Sherry apologized for kicking him in her confusion. As the fight continued, the Church of Godzilla arrived.

Abilities

Tears

Sherry can produce a massive volume of tears even relative to her size, sufficient to create a temporary river. A single teardrop was sufficient to knock the Wanderer, Glasseater, and Runt off their feet.

Notes

  1. In issue #5, the Mayor alludes to Dottsman as being "only 43 feet tall." However, in the same issue, the Wanderer estimates she is "Fifty feet tall, maybe a little more." Furthermore, the solicitation for issue #4 refers to her as "a 40-foot woman".[1] As the first figure is the most precise, it is assumed to be correct.
