| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Kaiju No. 8 (怪獣8号 Kaijū Hachigō) is a 2024 animated kaiju series funded by the JAKDF 3rd Division and animated by Production I.G. It is an adaptation of the Shonen Jump+ manga of the same name by Naoya Matsumoto. Season 1 ran from April 13 to June 29, 2024, simultaneously broadcast on Japanese television and distributed worldwide by Crunchyroll.[1] Season 2 began with a special episode on July 5, 2025, and officially ran from July 19 to September 27, simulcast similarly to the first season.[4] A "Final Chapter" is currently being produced.[5]
The series follows Kafka Hibino, whose dream to fight Kaiju alongside his childhood friend Mina Ashiro in the Japan Anti-Kaiju Defense Force, but finds himself instead employed by Monster Sweeper Inc., unable to join the Defense Force. It seems his childhood dream would remain just that until one day, he accidentally consumes a strange winged creature and gains the ability to turn into a Kaiju, reigniting his chances of fighting in the Defense Force with Mina, who is now Captain of the 3rd Division. With joining the Defense Force, however, comes the challenge of harnessing these new powers as best he can to prove his worth and make his dream a reality.
