The Vinerat is a mole-like superspecies[1] that first appeared in the eleventh episode of the 2026 Monsterverse TV series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, "Cause and Effect".
Name
The Vinerat's name combines the words "vine" and "rat", referring to the creature's appearance.
Design
The Vinerat is a quadrupedal rat-like creature covered in vine-like plant growths. Its body is very rough and bears exposed fleshy spots across it. The Vinerat's face is heavily shrinkwrapped and somewhat resembles a bear skull, with its nasal cavity caved in and its mouth containing bear-like teeth. The creature has a long tail and five digits on its hands and feet, each tipped in a large claw. While walking, its body is tensed up and held close to the ground.
Behavior
The Vinerat is a predator megafauna that resides in the subterranean tunnel networks of Skull Island. The superspecies is suited for living in complete darkness, hunting by following vibrations, sounds, and the smell of decay. If disturbed by something, the creature will leap out and ferociously attack. It sometimes comes to the surface into abandoned structures or caverns.[1]

Kentaro and May encountered a Vinerat while searching through the abandoned Apex Cybernetics base on Skull Island. The creature stepped off of a metal walkway and onto the floor as the two hid behind a server. When the Vinerat approached, they retreated to the opposite side of the server. Kentaro threw a flashlight to distract the Vinerat, allowing him and May to run. It sprinted after them and May pushed a bin towards it but no avail. Kentaro found a forklift and drove it toward the creature. When the Vinerat leapt at the vehicle, Kentaro swerved it towards a wall, impaling and killing the creature. "Cause and Effect"
Abilities
Physical abilities
The Vinerat is quite agile and can use its claws to slash at opponents. When attacking, it dives straight at its victims.
Strong senses
The Vinerat is able to sense vibrations, utilizing this capability to hunt prey.[1]
Weaknesses
The Vinerat was unable to push back against a forklift and was fatally impaled.
