History

Godzilla: Cataclysm

Issue 1

Shiori was a friend of Arata living in the ruins of Tokyo after the kaiju destroyed modern civilization. She eventually talked Arata into taking her scavenging with him, and they stumbled into a swarm of Kamacuras, that were defeated by Biollante before Godzilla came to challenge her.

Issue 2

Godzilla and Biollante continued their fight much to Shiori's bewilderment while she and Arata ran away, with Arata assuring her that battling one another was just what the gods did. Another monster that Arata identified as Mothra came to battle them. They then watched as Biollante was blasted in half by Godzilla's atomic breath and Mothra went down with a burnt wing. That night, Arata and Shiori returned and told Hiroshi that they had seen the monsters, and Hiroshi ushered them to his house to learn what had happened. After that, some families left the village for fear they would attract Godzilla, and others made plans to make human sacrifices to appease the gods. Arata and Shiori simply tried to enjoy what time they had left together. Late that night, Shiori awoke and removed from her scavenger's bag a chunk of Biollante's flesh that had sprouted a rose.

Issue 3

The next day, the village leader asked for volunteers for sacrifice, and Arata and Shiori recounted their encounter with the gods. Hiroshi then defended their stance by claiming that the monsters only wanted revenge on humanity, and that Godzilla had destroyed Biollante to make sure the earth and humans would never flourish again. Hiroshi then deduced that the reason Godzilla was still active was because Shiori had saved some of Biollante. The three then went to her house, where the small plant that Shiori defended as just a flower had grown to overtake the whole interior. Hiroshi cut out the orange heart and took it outside to get it away from the village, but Megaguirus and a swarm of Meganula descended nonetheless. Mothra came to defend Biollante, but Godzilla arrived to destroy her. Arata suggested they destroy Biollante to make the monsters go away, but Shiori and Hiroshi agreed that it could be used to restore the planet.

Issue 4

As Hiroshi dreamt about his past, Arata suddenly shook him awake as Shiori watched in silence. Hiroshi apologized to them, explaining he was miles away, as Shiori said she couldn't blame him for wanting to be somewhere else. Hiroshi then commented that Biollante was growing before they heard a long roar, prompting Shiori to ask whether they were safe. Hiroshi explained to them how he used to try and figure out how far a storm was; he then wondered if some parents also used this technique with their kids to give them hope, before he pessimistically stated that the storm was never too far away. As one of Mothra's beam shot overhead, Hiroshi stated that she was fighting Godzilla over Biollante, looking at Shiori at that moment. As they evacuated, Hiorshi told them for the first time his role in destroying the world. He was one of a group of powerful psychics who were recruited to put a stop to the monster attacks, but ended up driving them berserk. Arata angrily lashed out at Hiroshi, with Shiori trying to calm him down. He decided to scout ahead, asking Shiori to look after Hiroshi. Shiori tried to comfort Hiroshi, stating that Arata was a hothead, none of the monsters could truly be controlled, and she might have caused Godzilla attacking their camp by saving a small part of Biollante. The fight between Godzilla and Mothra brought them closer to the humans. Hiroshi observed that Mothra was losing as Biollante reacted with a roar. Arata than called them over, Shiori supporting Hiroshi as they followed. Hiroshi suddenly fell to his knees as Destoroyah rose from the sea before them, fearing his mind was still connected to the monsters and they would now conclude the apocalypse they started.

Issue 5

As Destoroyah approached, the villagers came to shore and Arata attempted to get them to safety, but Hiroshi told Shiori that it was too late because Destoroyah already knew they were there. Arata then cooled off and forgave Hiroshi, reasoning that no one man could have brought about the cataclysm, which inspired Hiroshi to pray to Godzilla to come and defeat the new threat. As he prayed, a Juvenile Form Destoroyah drove a pincer through Hiroshi's stomach. Arata comforted Hiroshi as he died while Shiori gave them details of the fight. Mothra soon came to help Godzilla, but was torn apart by Destoroyah's beam attack. After that, Biollante's tendrils sprung from the ground to pin Destoroyah down and Godzilla charged his red atomic breath which disintegrated the flesh on Destoroyah's head. Godzilla then withdrew into the sea as Biollante took root and began to spread.
