— Hera to Zeus about his negligent view of humankind.

Hera is the goddess of marriage, women, and marital harmony, as well as the queen of the gods, in ancient Greek mythology. She appears as a supporting character in IDW Publishing's 2016 comic Godzilla: Rage Across Time #2.

Design

Hera takes the appearance of a fit, beautiful woman with black hair, puffy lips, primed eyelashes, golden earrings with tassels, and a golden tiara on her head. Her dress is a white and baggy sleeve-less peplos, the front side of her being covered up from the breast downward while the back side is uncovered from the hips upwards aside from a strap that start atop Hera's shoulders before going down to her middle-back in a hood-like arc. Hera's hair is styled in a braided ponytail that reaches just slightly past her dress's back strap. A stretch of her hair rests halfway up her forehead horizontally and is braided into a golden wreath-mirroring structure. Above the braided stretch of golden hair rests a golden helmet-like forehead tiara. Hera's ears possess large round golden earrings from which golden tassels dangle down to her exposed shoulders. Her lower arms are protected by golden wristbands.

Personality

Like Aphrodite, Hera stands out from her fellow Olympians through her empathy and regard for humans, which prompted her to chime in on an argument between Zeus, Ares, and Aphrodite. Defined by her wisdom, Hera unhesitatingly berated Zeus for his egotistical degrading of humankind, expressing displeasure for how the gods had become pigheaded and spoiled under Zeus's selfish and negligent influence. Hera didn't hesitate to spitefully declare that Zeus's ego would ruin the Olympians. When human screams could be heard, Hera expressed sorrow for the unfortunate souls that were killed in the sudden arrival of Godzilla.

History

Godzilla: Rage Across Time

"Ancient Greece"

When a dispute regarding humankind's inherent value broke out between Zeus, Ares, and Aphrodite, Hera chimed in and defended the humans, disapproving of Zeus's self-entitled degradation towards them. Arguing that Zeus was disrespecting not just the humans but also the other Olympians with his maltreatment of them, she concluded that his lack of leadership had led to strife among humanity as they turned their backs on the gods. As Zeus furiously stormed off in pride, Hera called him stubborn and declared that his ego would ruin them all. She was the first Olympian to observe the screams of people dying in the destructive arrival of a tidal wave that reached the foot of Mount Olympus. Looking down from the pantheon alongside Ares and Aphrodite, Hera pitied the poor souls impacted. As Godzilla emerged from the water and killed Ares, Hera helplessly watched as Zeus confronted the monster and summoned the Hydra. When the ferocious monster rammed the four-headed Hydra into the mountain, Hera died alongside her fellow Olympians as Mount Olympus crumbled down.

Abilities

Olympian physiology

Like the other Olympians, Hera has an unnaturally long lifespan and can sense prayers from her human worshipers.

Scepter

Though unused in her appearance, Hera wields a golden scepter.

Weaknesses

Zeus emerging from Mount Olympus' ruins, with Hera's corpse in the bottom left corner

Like her fellow Olympians, Hera's power drew from the faith of her human worshippers. She ultimately died when Godzilla rammed the Hydra into Mount Olympus, killing her in the resulting destruction. Her hand is visible when Zeus emerges from the rubble.
