— Manafu's nonverbal narration in GAMERA

Manafu is the protagonist of the 2015 Kadokawa-produced kaiju short film GAMERA. A young child who was in Tokyo as it was invaded by a swarm of Gyaos, Manafu and his father fled for their lives through the streets until a Gyaos swooped down and devoured the latter, leaving Manafu orphaned. A second, much larger Gyaos appeared afterwards and consumed the first before going for the boy. Suddenly, Manafu was saved by a giant foot that came down on the flying monster, bearing witness as Gamera stood before him and wiped out the rest of the Gyaos with a fiery breath attack. The sole survivor of the incident, Manafu would be in Tokyo when Viras appeared in the city ten years later, standing watch as Gamera arrived to confront the monster.

Personality

Manafu's personality goes unexplored in the short film aside from his courage and determination to survive, added to by his admiration for Gamera after the monster saved him, motivating him to witness Gamera's confrontation with Viras ten years after the Gyaos attack.

History

GAMERA

10 years into the past, Manafu and his father were in Tokyo when the city was overrun by merciless swarms of Gyaos. In the moment of things as they fled for their lives, Manafu's father screamed for Manafu to go, beginning to promise Manafu that he would buy him ramen and dumplings if he outran the monsters. As the two of them faced likely death when one of the Gyaos came swooping down at them, Manafu was also promised unlimited game time. His father warned him that he would get no dinner if he was caught, speaking right as the Gyaos came from behind. In the nick of time, Manafu was pushed forward by his father right as the monster scooped him up in its jaws, screaming for Manafu to run as he was consumed. Coming to a brief stop, the now orphaned Manafu sadly watched the Gyaos fly off and picked up his father's dropped binoculars before continuing to run. Unbeknownst to him, another Gyaos took notice of him and promptly began flying down at him from behind, only to be ambushed and devoured by a far larger Gyaos, which itself went for Manafu next. Suddenly, Manafu tumbled to the ground as he was shook off his feet by a shockwave produced by a massive force coming down on the Gyaos, killing it in an instant and saving his life. To his surprise, Manafu turned around to see the giant Gyaos crushed by a massive foot, leaving him gagged as a long aged tail touched ground to his left, which gained his attention for a moment. Getting up to his feet, Manafu bore witness as a massive lumbering figure stood before him, oozing steam and green blood and quaking the vicinity with its sheer size. Awestruck silent, Manafu watched as the monster before him gustfully inhaled white energy, shaking the area with hot breezes as the power collected into its mouth before everything went still. An oncoming swarm of Gyaos began to close in from the sky ahead, evoking a reaction from the larger monster which staggered Manafu while he continued to watch. An orange glow built in the monster's before it suddenly recoiled back and unleashed a powerful blast of fiery energy, forcing Managu to block his eyes and get to the ground, taking cover from the attack's kickback. Curled up and covering his head, Manafu braced himself for the duration of the larger monster's attack, which wiped out the Gyaos swarm entirely and desecrated a fraction of Tokyo, leaving Manafu clinging to his father's binoculars and averting his eyes. The triumphant monster roaring in victory, Manafu was the sole survivor of the incident.

Ten years later, the city once again found itself under attack by a malevolent monster, this time the tentacled creature Viras. In the ensuing evacuation, the now matured Manafu stood in the streets, holding onto his father's binoculars and watching the scene before him unfold. Manafu witnessed as Gamera, the monster who saved his life ten years prior, turn around to face Viras, booming a ferocious challenge.
