— Hermes' only dialogue

Hermes is the god of boundaries, roads, travelers, merchants, thieves, athletes, shepherds, commerce, speed, cunning, language, oratory, wit, and messages in ancient Greek mythology. He appears as a supporting character in IDW Publishing's 2016 comic Godzilla: Rage Across Time #2.

Design

Hermes takes the appearance of a human-like being with neck-long orangish brown hair. Like his fellow Olympians, he is dressed in white attire and bears golden adornments. Hermes is quite small and lean compared to the other male Olympians, though he is nonetheless muscular and fit. His baggy, topless peplos covers everything between his abs and knees, while his neck is wrapped by a long scarf-like covering that matches his peplos and is held together by a circular golden clip. On his head, Hermes wears a golden hat-like helmet adorned with two protrusions parallel to each other. Hermes' ankles are adorned with golden ankle bands each with a matching pair of functional wings that grant him sustained flight.

Personality

Hermes showcases little personality in his appearance aside from promptly reporting to Zeus about a human conflict in which the warring factions were mysteriously wiped out. His concern was enough that he shoved his way through Ares and Aphrodite to inform Zeus of the matter.

History

Godzilla: Rage Across Time

"Ancient Greece"

When two warring human factions at sea were mysteriously massacred, Hermes took notice and hastily sped for Mount Olympus, gaining the attention of some people below. Reaching the gods' pantheon atop the mountain, Hermes pushed through fellow Olympians Ares and Aphrodite. On one knee, Hermes reported the situation of the human conflict turned graveyard to the king of the gods, Zeus. Receiving a laugh from Zeus and grumbling from Ares that none of the combatants had prayed to him, Hermes was comforted by Aphrodite, who too expressed concern about the lack of prayers and praise she had received as of late. When Godzilla, the perpetrator of the massacre, waged battle against the Hydra after having claimed the lives of Ares and Poseidon, he rammed the four-headed serpent straight into Mount Olympus. The mountain crumbled alongside the gods' pantheon, wiping out most of the Olympians, with only Zeus emerging from the rubble alive.

Abilities

Olympian physiology

Like the other Olympians, Hermes has an unnaturally long lifespan and can sense prayers from his human worshipers.

Flight

Attached to Hermes' ankle bands are two pairs of wings that grant him flight, allowing him to "run" on air and cover long distances in little time.

Weaknesses

Like his fellow Olympians, Hermes' power drew from the faith of his human worshipers. He was presumably killed when Godzilla destroyed Mount Olympus by ramming the Hydra into it.
