Timmons sailed from Surabaya, Indonesia, on the Petrox Explorer. He attended the presentation where Fred Wilson and Roy Bagley talked about the voyage's destination, Skull Island, and witnessed the conflict between stowaway Jack Prescott and Wilson, who mistook him for an industrial spy. A bit later, Timmons was standing at the railing on the deck when Prescott suddenly ran up to him and pointed to an object in the sea. Timmons looked through his binoculars and saw that it was a life raft. On the raft was an unconscious actress Dwan, who survived the explosion of the yacht during a recent storm. She joined the expedition. One day, Garcia wanted to watch Dwan take a shower, and Timmons held him by the legs as he hung upside down and tried to look through the shower window. Seeing this, Prescott walked up and began tickling Timmons, forcing him to release his hands, and Garcia fell into the sea.
Several days later, the Petrox Explorer stopped in front of a fog bank, and Timmons went ahead in a boat with eight other crew members. As they expected, Skull Island soon emerged when the fog cleared. Timmons was the first to jump off when the boat reached shallow water. As Bagley had decided, they went through the cave and up a wide canyon to set up seismic equipment, but suddenly a high wall appeared in their path. Hearing music, they walked even further and found a native settlement near a giant gate in the wall. With his gun at the ready, Timmons watched the ceremony and the attempted conversation between the witch doctor and Prescott. When the islanders attempted to take Dwan by force, Timmons and the other crew members scared them off by firing into the air and then returned to the ship. However, at night they had to return to the island, as the natives kidnapped Dwan. Timmons and the others arrived too late: she had already been given to the giant ape Kong as a bride. Timmons stood in front of the gate ready to fire, but on the other side of the wall they found only an empty altar and giant footprints.
Together with Carnahan, Prescott, Joe Perko, Boan, and Garcia, Timmons went to find Dwan. As the group stopped in the woods and made a fire, he kept watch, walking around the camp site with a gun. The next day they walked slowly, distracted by the installation of seismic charges on Wilson's orders. At night, as they were walking along a log through a deep chasm, they suddenly encountered a roaring Kong. Frightened, Timmons and the others began shooting, but this only enraged the monstrous ape. As Kong grabbed the log, Timmons staggered and dropped his gun. Garcia quickly lost his balance near Timmons and fell into the abyss. Unable to get a secure grip on the branch, Timmons fell after him.
