Garcia sailed from Surabaya, Indonesia, on the Petrox Explorer. Two days later, he attended a presentation where Fred Wilson and Roy Bagley revealed the expedition's true destination, Skull Island. A little later, he brought a sandwich to stowaway Jack Prescott, who Wilson was interrogating for spying. Wilson took the sandwich for himself, and Garcia and Sunfish led Prescott to the cabin, but he broke free and ran to Timmons, pointing to a suspicious object in the ocean. It turned out to be a life raft with an unconscious Dwan, who survived the explosion of a yacht during the storm. She joined the expedition. One day, Garcia hung upside down over the railing and, held down by Timmons, tried to look at Dwan as she got out of the shower. Prescott saw this and intervened, forcing Timmons to release his grip, and Garcia fell into the water with the life preserver.

Several days later, when the ship stopped in front of a fog bank, Garcia and eight other crew members went ahead in a boat. He extended his hand in admiration as he saw the island beyond the fog. They landed on the shore, walked along a wide canyon, and soon discovered a huge wall and a native settlement near a giant gate. Garcia had no gun, so he watched the islanders' ceremony, their attempt to talk to Prescott, and then retreated in alarm when other crew members began firing into the air, scaring off the Skull Islanders. After the islanders kidnapped Dwan that night, Garcia and the others set out for the island again, hoping to rescue her. When the natives, frightened by more shots, fled, Garcia directed a flashlight at the gate. On the other side of the wall, they found only an empty altar and footprints of the monstrous ape Kong. Together with Carnahan, Prescott, Joe Perko, Boan, and Timmons, Garcia went to find Dwan.
The group moved slowly, distracted by Wilson ordering them to set the seismic equipment. Garcia and the other crew members did not speed up even when Prescott informed them that Kong was heading towards them. They walked further into the mountains and at night came across a deep chasm. Prescott crossed it on a log and found that the path was safe. The others followed, not noticing that Kong was already watching them from the other side. Garcia again had no gun, and when Kong suddenly growled, he stood in fear between the other crew members who opened fire on the ape. The enraged beast moved forward. Garcia turned around, trying to cross back across the log, but was too late. Kong grabbed the log, and Garcia, unable to hold on, fell into the abyss.
Trivia
- Garcia is only named in the film's extended cut, during the scene where he looks at Dwan coming out of the shower.
