Proto-Moguera is a robotic monster who appeared in the 1997-1998 TV show Godzilla Island, specifically the last three story arcs of season 1.

Name

Proto-Moguera's name simply comes from "proto", from "prototype", being placed in front of "Moguera". It was done in order to differentiate from the other Moguera in the show, who was based on the Heisei iteration of the character.

Design

Proto-Moguera is portrayed using a figure of the Showa Moguera design, compared to the Heisei design being used for the regular Moguera.

Origins

Proto-Moguera was a prototype of the mecha Moguera and was reused for construction work.

History

  • Godzilla Island (TV 1997–1998) [episodes 94–95, 101–103, 106–108, 115–117, and 126]

Heisei era

Godzilla Island

Mechagodzilla

Proto-Moguera was first seen being used to help construct a G-Guard base on Godzilla Island. Zagreth later stole Proto-Moguera and used the robot to destroy a different base's construction site and activate dynamite when Anguirus and Baragon tried to stop her. Godzilla arrived soon after, roaring at Proto-Moguera, who fired its eye lasers at Godzilla and repeatedly knocking him down. Mothra Leo and Rodan attempted to interfere but were knocked from the sky by Proto-Moguera. However, Torema joined the fight piloting Black Mechagodzilla and, alongside Godzilla, forced Zagreth and Proto-Moguera to be collected by the Vabaruda. The Giant Dark Emperor praised Zagreth for stopping G-Guard from building a second base and capturing Proto-Moguera.

Goodbye, Torema

After Destoroyah and Megalon trapped Godzilla and Torema in a cave on Matango Island, Proto-Moguera attacked the pair. The mecha repeatedly fired its eye lasers at Godzilla before burrowing away from the duo's counterattacks until Godzilla caught it off-guard with a tail swipe. Torema escaped to Godzilla Island, returning to find Proto-Moguera still besieging Godzilla. She waited by one of Proto-Moguera's holes and shot it in the face with the Panna Torte's lasers, with another tail-wipe from Godzilla hitting in the face. With its processor damaged, Proto-Moguera randomly moved around, eventually burrowing an exit allowing for Godzilla and Torema to escape. While Godzilla was being attacked by Destoroyah and Megalon, Proto-Moguera entered the fight and knocked all three of them down. Furious, Destoroyah defeated the robot.

Bonus

Now back under the control of the G-Guard, Proto-Moguera aided the reconstruction of G-Guard's base after it was attacked by Mecha-King Ghidorah and Kamacuras. Flashbacks of Proto-Moguera were also be seen during the credits, including its battles with Godzilla.

Abilities

Eye lasers

Proto-Moguera possesses eye lasers which were strong enough to knock down Godzilla and were also stated to be able to cut through solid rock.

Durability

Torema mentions that Proto-Moguera's chest armor is tough enough to resist the Panna Torte's lasers. Its head also seems to be somewhat durable as it continued fighting Godzilla and Torema despite multiple tail swipes and laser blasts to the face though a tail swipe to the face did damage its processor and make it move randomly as a result.

Burrowing

Similar to Moguera No. 2 in The Mysterians, Proto-Moguera is capable of burrowing underground, utilizing this ability to sneak attack Godzilla.

Weaknesses

Proto-Moguera struggled to fight back when both Black Mechagodzilla and Godzilla teamed up to fight it, leaving the robot incapable of reacting to the beam attacks of both. A well-aimed tail swipe from Godzilla to the face caused the mecha to lose control and move in random directions.
