Shinnosuke Nohara naming Godzilla

Godzilla (ゴジラ,   Gojira) is a kaiju who appeared in the second half of the 901st episode of the anime Crayon Shin-chan, "Shinnosuke vs. Shin Godzilla", which aired in 2016. An enormous creature who suddenly surfaced in Tokyo Bay to menace Japan, Godzilla rampaged until he was defeated by an enlarged Shinnosuke Nohara and his allies in the Kasukabe Defense Force, who forced a chemical reaction into his biological systems, shrinking him to the size of a lizard.

Name

See also: Godzilla#Name.

Godzilla's Japanese name, Gojira (ゴジラ), comes from a combination of the Japanese approximation of "gorilla" (ゴリラ,   gorira), and kujira (クジラ), the Japanese word for "whale."

Shinnosuke Nohara initially names the monster Shin Godzilla (シン・ゴジラ,   Shin Gojira), the title of the film that the episode promotes. This is the result of the boy misunderstanding Godzilla to have first appeared at 5 o'clock at night, taking inspiration from the Japanese words shinya (深夜, "[late] at night") and goji (5 ()時, "5:00"). Characters refer to the monster as simply "Godzilla" for the rest of the episode.

Design

Main article: Godzilla (Shin Godzilla)#Design.

Appearing in Crayon Shin-chan to promote Shin Godzilla, which opened in Japanese theaters one week after the episode aired, this Godzilla is closely modeled on the 4th Form of the incarnation from that film. The most notable difference is the tip of his tail, which lacks the spare head seen in the film. His hide is primarily a dark gray-brown, with a reduced number of red scar-like accents which glow red when he is underwater. The shadows his brow ridges cast over his eyes outline his tear troughs, which are slit at the middle. When he glares at the beginning of the episode, the interiors of his pupils briefly glow white.

Personality

Godzilla is a mysterious creature who appears in Tokyo for unknown reasons. When Hiroshi Nohara shouted at him in defense of his home, Godzilla took notice and immediately crushed it, possibly out of spite. He attacked Shinnosuke Nohara on sight, but did not always press his advantage during their fight, pausing as sweat drops appeared on his head while the boy performed his butt dance in the process of carrying the SP-X to a highway.

History

Crayon Shin-chan

"Shinnosuke vs. Shin Godzilla"

Deep in the ocean, pulsing with red bioluminescence all over his being, Godzilla opened his eyes. At 5:00 AM, Godzilla surfaced in Tokyo Bay and let out a roar. Traveling along the Kitajukken River, Godzilla was photographed by a Tokyo Skytree observation camera. He made landfall near the Shuto Expressway and crossed into Saitama Prefecture through Yashio's Ukizuka quarter. Along the way, he plowed through the Ukihana Bridge, putting him 20 kilometers away from Kasukabe. The Kasukabe Defense Force quickly convened, with Shinnosuke Nohara naming the monster. When Godzilla arrived in town, he loomed over the home of the Nohara family, where the patriarch, Hiroshi, yelled at Godzilla that he still had 32 years left on his mortgage. The monster promptly stomped the house. As Professor Bo explained the invention he hoped would stop Godzilla, the Fathergen Gigantifier, Godzilla punted Masao Sato's home. Prime Minister Bunta Takakura tasked Shinnosuke with using the Gigantifier to grow and fight Godzilla.

Godzilla came upon the enlarged Shinnosuke Nohara as he was talking to his crush, Nanako Ohara, who encouraged him to protect Japan from the monster. The kindergarten turned to see the monster and had just enough time to set Nanako down before a tail-whip sent him into the apartment building of his classmate, Toru Kazama. Godzilla's dorsal fins glowed blue as the monster turned towards Shinnosuke and fired his atomic breath. Shinnosuke evaded as the blast obliterated the apartment building. Godzilla watched in dismay as Shinnosuke carried the rest of the Kasukabe Defense Force inside the SP-X bus on his behind to a nearby highway while doing his signature butt dance. As Shinnosuke and his friends charged, Godzilla fired another blast of atomic breath, stopping Shinnosuke in his tracks and cleaving through the highway in front of the bus. Bo unveiled the Fathergen Destroyer, capable of shrinking its targets, as the bus drove off the edge of the cleaved highway, landing on Shinnosuke in time to ride up his back as he leapt into the air. Godzilla charged his atomic breath as the Destroyer deployed from SP-X in midair its payload of chemical gas detonating in Godzilla's face. The bus landed on his head and drove down his back while Shinnosuke stuck his butt in Godzilla's mouth and farted to keep the gas from escaping and halt the atomic breath attack. Forcibly inhaling the highly odorous chemicals, Godzilla swelled up and deflated in rhythm with Shinnosuke's sighs of relief. Godzilla rapidly shrunk down along with Shinnosuke, holding the boy in his mouth as he was reduced to the size of a lizard. For a brief moment, Godzilla held up the now normal-sized Shinnosuke before the boy sat on him. Lying on the ground as Shinnosuke got up, Godzilla let out a little screech as the Kasukabe Defense Force stared at him in shock. The tiny monster swam away, although Bo warned that the effects of the Fathergen Destroyer would wear off in the water.

Abilities

Atomic breath

Godzilla firing his atomic breath at Shinnosuke and the S-PX

Godzilla can obliterate manmade structures with his atomic breath. The first time he fired atomic breath at Shinnosuke Nohara, he inadvertently obliterated the apartment building of the boy's classmate and superior, Kazama. Later, Godzilla used his atomic breath in an attempt to halt a charge from his enemies, stopping Shinnosuke in his tracks and cleaving through a highway, threatening the crew of the S-PX. His dorsal fins glow for a significant duration before he fires.

Amphibiousness

Godzilla swimming in Tokyo Bay

Godzilla can live underwater and travel on land. He swims lying forward like a crocodilian.

Physical abilities

Godzilla tail-whipping Shinnosuke

Godzilla crushed and punted houses and greeted Shinnosuke with a precise swing of his tail which hurled the boy into a building. After being shrunken down to the size of a lizard, Godzilla briefly supported the normal-sized Shinnosuke's full weight with his mouth.

Durability

Godzilla being assailed by the Fathergen Destroyer and Shinnosuke's flatulence

Godzilla survived forcibly breathing in the combined potency of the Fathergen Destroyer's gas deployment and Shinnosuke's flatulence. After being shrunken down to the size of a lizard, Godzilla appeared unharmed when Shinnosuke sat on him.

Weaknesses

Godzilla shrinking to the size of a lizard

Godzilla failed to hit Shinnosuke with either blast of atomic breath he fired, with the boy hopping away from the first and stopping short in front of the second. Godzilla was ultimately defeated when he was forced to inhale the chemical gas ejected by the Fathergen Destroyer and shrank to the size of a lizard, ceasing his atomic breath charge-up when Shinnosuke blocked his mouth with his behind and began to flatulate.

Miscellaneous

Roar

This Godzilla utilizes the high-pitched Showa era roar first heard in King Kong vs. Godzilla throughout his appearance thrice. In the first instance, the roar is slowed down for dramatic effect. Whilst firing atomic breath, Godzilla lets off one of the second-generation Showa Godzilla's other high-pitch screeches. After being shrunken to the size of a typical lizard, Godzilla emitted a soft, high-tone screech.

The sound effect heard while atomic breath is charged consists of an electrical churn often used in media. As the beam attack is fired, the traditional hiss from past Godzilla media is heard, though it is higher-pitched in comparison.

Trivia

  • Though similar to the Godzilla who appeared in Shin Godzilla due to his role in promoting that film, this Godzilla is different in three key ways, likely to avoid spoiling the film: he doesn't self-evolve at any point, he lacks a head-like structure on the end of his tail, and he utilizes a traditional blue atomic breath instead of the uniquely purple and focused laser-like beam seen in Shin Godzilla. However, the film's ending is nonetheless foreshadowed, with Shinnosuke Nohara and his allies defeating Godzilla by forcing a chemical reaction into his biological systems. He also emerges from Tokyo Bay tail-first, as his 1st Form does in the film.
