Kyosuke Akiba (秋葉恭介 Akiba Kyosuke) is a major supporting character who first appeared in the 2003 Godzilla film Godzilla: Tokyo SOS. Formerly a top gun of the ASDF, Akiba is now assigned to work for the JXSDF as the new Kiryu pilot, after it's previous pilot Akane Yashiro left Japan to study advanced combat tactics in the United States alongsides Susumu Hayama and Kenji Sekine. He had volunteered for the JXSDF's Kiryu Corps, driven by his ambition to pilot Kiryu, the world's only mecha ever built. Although he has great piloting skills, he usually handles aircraft roughly which leads to his conflict with Yoshito Chujo. Despite his rash remarks, he was a big contribution to Yoshito's rescue when he was stuck inside of Kiryu who flew straight down the Japan Trench with the immobilized Godzilla.

Akiba is quite rash and is very reckless, especially when piloting Kiryu.

Akiba was once a pilot for the ASDF (Air Self Defense Force), but he left and decided to join the JXSDF's Kiryu Squadron after being driven by his ambition to pilot Kiryu. During a ceremony held for the original Kiryu Squadron pilots, Akiba walked to the corner were Yoshito Chujo was talking to Asuza Kisaragi. Asuza introduced him to Yoshito, only for him to make remarks about his rough piloting skills. In response, Akiba pulled a fake-out punch in front of him. He then opened his fists to reveal a dead fly in his palm, he smirked and then walked away. Much later, while Yoshito was walking with his co-workers Mochizuki and Tadokoro, Akiba interrupted the scene, he explained that someone had broken the info to him that Yoshito's uncle Shinichi Chujo had told Prime Minister Igarashi to halt the Kiryu project due to a warning from the Shobijin that if they keep using the cyborg, Mothra would declare war on humanity. Akiba then made a rash remark on Yoshito, saying that he is scared of fighting Godzilla. Yoshito became enraged by that remark, as Mochizuki and Tadokoro were restraining him, he tried to punch Akiba but he put his foot up which makes Yoshito fall to the ground. After the situation, Yoshito was called in by Akiba's father, parliamentary vice-minister of the Defense Agency Isao who apologized for his son's disgraceful behavior. After telling Yoshito about his son's ambitions to pilot Kiryu, he asked him for testimony about the incident that occurred at the villa Yoshito stayed at with his uncle and nephew.
