In fiction
- Scientists in Japan invent a black hole gun dubbed the Dimension Tide to finally destroy Godzilla. The device opens up a wormhole that allows a prehistoric race of insects called the Meganulon to enter the future. The Meganulon metamorphose into giant dragonflies called Meganula, which siphon energy from Godzilla. They then inject the energy into the Meganula queen, giving rise to the monster Megaguirus. The Queen of the Insects and the King of the Monsters battle in Tokyo, and after an epic bout, Godzilla kills his opponent. The Dimension Tide is fired one last time before exploding upon reentry, and Godzilla is seemingly defeated. However, the creature reemerges a few weeks later, completely unharmed. (Godzilla vs. Megaguirus)
- Sebastian, uncle to Nancy and Joaquin, dies during the September 11 terrorist attack, an event which has a particular impact on Joaquin. (Godzilla Rivals: Vs. Gigan)
