Heisei era
Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris
3 days after the destruction of Shibuya and the Japanese government's order to kill Gamera, a Japanese news station reported that the JMSDF attacked Gamera off Okinotori Island early that day. The station said they did not know at the time if Gamera was hit. The Kongō-class destroyer JS Myōkō (DDG-175) and Asagiri-class destroyer JS Yamagiri (DD-152) were deployed alongside 2 Mitsubishi SH-60J helicopters in the footage shown.
Reiwa era
Shin Godzilla
After the giant creature Godzilla fled into Tokyo Bay, the Kongō-class destroyer JS Kirishima, Takanami-class destroyers JS Takanami and JS Ōnami, and the Akizuki-class destroyer JS Teruzuki were deployed in Sagami Bay to search for the creature alongside a Mitsubishi SH-60K suspending a dipping sonar.

"Enfatico"
The Kongō-class destroyer JS Kirishima (DDG-174), followed by the Akizuki-class destroyer JS Teruzuki (DD-116) and Asahi-class destroyer JS Asahi (DD-119), formed a blockade in Tokyo Bay, tracking a swarm of Manda approaching them. A Mitsubishi SH-60J disengaged the swarm before the three destroyers turned their guns to port. Together the ships fired at the swarm, killing several Manda. A group of photographers and civilians watched the attack unfold from a distance. The swarm continued approaching, and the captain of the ship ordered to turn 180 degrees to port and hold fire, warning to brace for impact as the group swam past. A new target was detected by their sonar 100 degrees left from the bow, quickly ascending. Moments later, Godzilla Aquatilus leaped out of the sea over Kirishima and followed the Manda into Tokyo Bay, dying the surrounding water red.

Comics
Gamera vs. Barugon: Comic Version
Multiple JMSDF destroyers, including the Kongō-class destroyer JS Kirishima (DDG-174) were deployed in Tokyo Bay to attack the kaiju Barugon after it hatched and grew to enormous size, attacking JSDF forces with its ice breath. The ships fired at the monster, only for Barugon to fire its Rainbow Death Ray at the fleet, directly striking Kirishima and causing it to explode, then sink. The energy from the Rainbow Death Ray also created a tsunami wave which destroyed the the American naval base at Yokosuka.
