70 Years of Godzilla: A New Roar in Southeast Asia is a 2025 3D-animated kaiju short film credited to Singaporean company Toho Entertainment Asia (a subsidiary of Toho) and Thai company Igloo Studio. A celebration of the Godzilla series' 70th anniversary, it is described as "special footage [which] honors Southeast Asia" and "a tribute to the fans who have kept [Godzilla's] legacy alive." The short features a new Godzilla based on the one from Godzilla Minus One rampaging across several SEA locations. It was published to the GODZILLA OFFICIAL by TOHO YouTube channel on May 9, 2025.

Plot

Godzilla swims among the hills of Indonesia. He passes the village of Waerebo on foot before returning to the water, then making landfall in Bali. Afterward, he rises from the sea in Bangkok, Thailand. A montage shows Godzilla standing and roaring in numerous locations in Southeast Asia, both urban and rural. Finally, amid a foggy city, he begins charging atomic breath, his dorsal fins, mouth, and eyes glowing green.

Background

70 Years of Godzilla: A New Roar in Southeast Asia was released without any prior announcement, and very little context was given for its purpose, outside of celebrating Godzilla's 70th anniversary and "a new roar" occurring in Southeast Asia. The short is likely connected to Toho's ongoing expansion into Asian markets outside Japan, which began in the 2020s. One of the companies associated with the short, Thai animation studio Igloo Studio, signed a deal to have a 32% stake acquired by Toho subsidiary TOHO Global in late 2023.[1] The other, Singapore's Toho Entertainment Asia, was founded on February 29, 2024, as a subsidiary of TOHO Global to "act as a strategic base" for the expansion.[2]

It is also unclear whether the short was created to be completely standalone, or to herald further developments. However, according to a report by Bloomberg, Toho is planning a "still-untitled Southeast Asia-focused [Godzilla] project".[3]
