Toho Kaiju Series
The Toho Kaiju Series (東宝怪獣シリーズ Tōhō Kaijū Shirīzu) is a line of 6-inch soft vinyl Godzilla action figures released by Bandai. The line began in 1998, the same year as the Godzilla Island Monster Series.
Information
This toy line features reissues of all the figures from the Godzilla Island Monster Series; their size and paint schemes are no different from the previous line. However, the tags for the Toho Kaiju Series figures have green borders and follow the same number order as the Godzilla Island Monster figures. New pictures of each monster are used on the front.
To coincide with the release of Rebirth of Mothra 3 in 1998, Bandai added Rainbow Mothra 1998 and Cretaceous King Ghidorah to the Toho Kaiju lineup. A Theater Exclusive Rainbow Mothra figure was also made, making it the first Godzilla toy line to feature Theater Exclusive figures, which are sculpted in translucent clear vinyl.
In 1999, Bandai introduced Godzilla 1954 to the Toho Kaiju Series line. In 2001, Godzilla 1954 was reissued as an event exclusive to celebrate Eiji Tsuburaya’s 100th birthday. For two separate events, Bandai produced translucent grayish-black vinyl and translucent brownish-red vinyl variants.
To coincide with the release of Godzilla 2000: Millennium in 1999, Bandai added Godzilla 1999 and Orga to the Toho Kaiju lineup. As with Rainbow Mothra in 1998, a Theater Exclusive variant of the Godzilla 1999 figure was made, along with various other translucent variants. The tags for both the Godzilla 1999 and Orga figures have black borders instead of green ones, and the back has pictures of the advance poster for Godzilla 2000: Millennium.
To coincide with the release of Godzilla vs. Megaguirus in 2000, Bandai added Megaguirus to the Toho Kaiju lineup in a blister pack with figures of Godzilla, Meganulon, Meganula, and GX-813 Griffon.
