Fest Godzilla (フェス・ゴジラ Fesu Gojira) is an ongoing series of live-action Godzilla short films directed by Kazuhiro Nakagawa. Films in the series have been produced annually for the titular convention Godzilla Fest since 2020. Fest Godzilla distinguishes itself from modern CGI-driven Godzilla features by its use of tokusatsu practical effects techniques—including suitmation, scale models, and miniature sets—which had been commonplace in the franchise between 1954 and 2004. Various classic kaiju have made appearances, portrayed by a mix of archival suits and newly-built ones.
The series began with Godzilla Appears at Godzilla Fest (2020), a solo film featuring a Heisei-inspired Godzilla who is revealed to be an actor on a movie set. The following film, Godzilla vs. Hedorah (2021), introduced a different Godzilla with the design from Godzilla Final Wars (2004), this time presented as a real creature, and pitted him against Hedorah for the latter's 50th anniversary. This same Godzilla featured in three direct sequels which also commemorated his opponents: Fest Godzilla 3: Gigan Attacks (2022), for Gigan's 50th; Fest Godzilla 4: Operation Jet Jaguar (2023), for Jet Jaguar's 50th; and Fest Godzilla 5: All Monsters Showdown (2024), which concluded the story with Jet Jaguar receiving the claws of the deceased Gigan and allying with Godzilla against King Ghidorah for the latter's 60th.
The series would be rebooted with a new run of films, known as Fest Godzilla II (フェス・ゴジラⅡ Fesu Gojira Tsū), which stars a Godzilla with the design from Godzilla 2000: Millennium (1999). The first film, Fest Godzilla II: Shinjuku in Flames, was released 2025 and had Godzilla achieve a Burning form in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995).
