The Phoenix (フェニックス,   Fenikkusu) is a supernatural fire-themed bird originating from ancient Greek mythology used by Shogakukan for their 1995 bunkobon novel Gamera vs. Phoenix.

Development

The Phoenix was originally planned to battle Gamera in the unproduced 1994 film, Armageddon: Gamera vs. Phoenix.[1] The film was written by by Shōwa Gamera screenwriter Nisan Takahashi, who would then go on to write the 1995 novel Gamera vs. Phoenix after the film proposal never went through with production.

Design

The Phoenix is a giant bird colored red everywhere. It has a long neck and legs, a crest on its head, a moderately long beak, and a tail consisting of three long feathers.

History

Gamera vs. Phoenix

A new Gamera emerges from beneath the Nazca Lines after the original gave his life to protect the Earth, with the new Gamera eventually encountering and battling the giant firebird known as the Phoenix.[2]
