Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah Great Encyclopedia(ゴジラVSキングギドラ大百科, Gojira tai Kingu Gidora Daihyakka) is a 1991Japanese informational book focused on Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah. It was published by Rippu Shobo on December 12, 1991, two days before the film's release. Among its contents is a short manga adaptation of the film by Shinji Nishikawa, simply titled Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah(ゴジラVSキングギドラ, Gojira tai Kingu Gidora).
The included manga adaptation of Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah is referred to as a "digest version", and accordingly streamlines much of the plot, while also making other changes.
Emmy Kano (surname not spoken) and Wilson are the only characters to be named in the dialogue, though Kenichiro Terasawa's name still appears on the cover of The Birth of Godzilla. A young man presumed to be Terasawa, a bespectacled man presumed to be Hironori Masaki, a girl with a ponytail presumed to be Miki Saegusa, a third Futurian presumed to be Glenchico, a right-hand man to Emmy presumed to be M11, and at least one blonde technician with a shoulder pad presumed to be M101 and/or M102[a] all nonetheless make appearances.
Furthermore, four people can be seen sitting across from the Futurians in one panel of their government meeting (reduced from the 13 non-Futurians in attendance in the film). Though they are drawn with little detail, if they are presumed to be the same characters as who occupies their seats in the film, they can be identified as Takehito Fujio, Ryuzo Dobashi, the Director General of the Defense Agency, and an unnamed character.
Numerous characters are completely absent from the story, including Yasuaki Shindo, Chiaki Morimura, Masukichi Ikehata, Morrys, the Japanese Prime Minister, Major Spielberg and his commanding officer.
Much of the film's first act is jettisoned. The sightings of a UFO in Tokyo are followed immediately by the Futurians' meeting with the government, thus skipping Terasawa's introduction; his visits to Ikehata, Masaki, Morimura, and Shindo; the G-Force meeting about Godzilla's whereabouts; the military surrounding MOTHER; and the Futurians' holograms introducing themselves. Moreover, the members of the expedition to Lagos Island depart immediately after the meeting, skipping Terasawa and Masaki being summoned and they and the others being briefed.
M11 never spies on the Japanese soldiers on Lagos, as the Godzillasaurus appears immediately after KIDS touches down. Upon being shot by a battleship, the dinosaur dives into the water and attacks it before returning to land, collapsing from his injuries, and being teleported away all in the same day. The time travelers thus never skip ahead a day, nor do they ever exit KIDS; Emmy simply views the injured dinosaur on a monitor.
↑ 1.01.1In the only close-up of one of the twins, he wears a pauldron on his right shoulder, corresponding to M102. In the next panel, a wide shot, one of them can be seen sitting in the background with a pauldron on his left shoulder, which would make him M101. Therefore, either only one of them was intended to be included but the placement of his pauldron was drawn inconsistently, or both of them were meant to be in the story but simply never appear alongside each other.
