— Eren's climatic declaration in Attack on Titan the Movie: Part 1 |
The Eren Titan (エレン巨人 Eren Kyojin) is the Titan form of Eren (エレン Eren), the main character of the 2015 Toho Pictures–produced films Attack on Titan the Movie: Part 1 and Part 2. He is the live-action film adaptation of Eren Yeager and the Attack Titan from Hajime Isayama's manga series Attack on Titan (2009–21). A young man born in the farmland town of Monzen in the outer district concealed by the outermost of three consecutive walls, Eren found it hard to keep an occupation and to enjoy his life as it was. On a fateful day, he and his friends, Armin and Mikasa, were informed of a mission in the making to scout the outside world after 100 years of living behind the safety of the walls from the Titans. When it seemed that their lives were about to change for the better, an enormous Titan smashed open a hole in the wall, allowing a massive group of Titans to swarm the outermost district and prey on the helpless people within. Following this incident, Eren developed an intense hatred for the man-eating creatures and swore to kill them all and to see the outside world. Initially unbeknownst to him and everyone, Eren was capable of becoming one of the very creatures he swore to kill.
Name
In other Attack on Titan media, Eren's full name is spelled as "Eren Yeager" or "Eren Yaeger" interchangeably. In the live-action film duology, his surname is never acknowledged, but he remains simply as Eren.
Design
In his Titan form, Eren assumes the appearance of a large Titan with a lean muscular physique, black shaggy hair that reaches below his head, red luminescent eyes complete with black sclera, long pointed ears, and exposed lip-less jaws armed with sharp teeth. His skin is covered in scar-like lesions that glow orange or red whenever Eren booms a battle cry in rage, first seen during his very first transformation in Part 1 and later seen in Part 2 after his triumph over Shikishima's Titan. Very briefly during his transformation, before turning orange, Eren's skin openings glow green. In general, Eren's Titan possesses light skin, faintly paler than that of standard Titans but otherwise saturated peach compared to that of Shikishima's Titan.
Origins
Years prior to the present-day, Eren's father was a scientist who had accumulated immense books and resources regarding illegal knowledge kept secret by the government. With aid from Souda, a serum for unknown purposes was developed, which was first injected into Eren's brother. Some time later, Eren himself was injected with the serum, to the discontent of his mother. Not too long afterwards unfortunately, the family was faced with invasion by military forces intent on apprehension as well as the disposal of the illegal books. As the home filled with troops, Eren was handed over to Souda to escape. In the process, the young Eren was orphaned and Souda was forced to take him away. From that night onwards, Souda looked after Eren as his guardian. Because he was so young when his parents were killed, Eren grew up to not remember anything about his parents, let alone his older brother.
Personality
Eren is a distinguishably contentious and aggressive individual, having been fired from many jobs for breaking into fights. In addition, Eren is defined by his free-spiritedness and uncontainable desire to explore the world outside of the walls, a pivotal core part of his character that would push him through the events of the films regardless of the obstacles ahead. Eren's bond with Armin and Mikasa comes from their common interest in the outside world, which the three of them desire to see. Whereas Armin and Mikasa are content about humanity's self-containment and feel uncomfortable with trying to climb the wall, Eren proves to be brave and rebellious enough to lead his friends through the illegal act. As first demonstrated when Garrison Regiment troops tried to apprehend him and his friends for trying to climb the wall, Eren proved highly protective of his loved ones, resorting to attacking the troops to protect Armin and Mikasa. While Eren's friendship with Armin can be attributed to their shared interest in exploration, Eren's relationship with Mikasa remains to be unexplored regarding its foundation. Regardless, Eren holds sincere romantic feelings for Mikasa, which he initially seemed to be somewhat embarrassed about prior to their unfortunate separation. Besides his friendships, Eren appears to see Souda as an annoying guardian figure, visibly annoyed whenever Souda acknowledged his feelings for Mikasa. Above all else, Eren feels tremendous distress from humanity's self-containment from the outside world, even holding disbelief in the existence of the Titans, choosing to propose that perhaps the outside world is a paradise.
After the traumatic events that changed everything, Eren developed an immense hatred of the Titans, driven by a burning desire to kill them all. With no blood relatives lost during the Titan invasion, nor any living ones to provide for, Eren remained stoic amongst his comrades in the Scout Regiment, though he would remain silently sympathetic towards them. In the two years spent training in the Scout Regiment, Eren would make enemies with Jean, marked by their tendency to get into fights with each other.

Attack on Titan the Movie: Part 1
100 years following the Titan apocalypse that wiped out most of human civilization, Eren was amongst the inhabitants of the farmland town Monzen in the outermost district of three concentric walls constructed to seal off and protect the remnants of humanity from the Titans. Prior to the on-screen events of the film, Eren had been employed many times, only to be fired every single time courtesy of consistently getting into physical fights with others.
One day, Eren was fired from yet another job, of which word spread across the local community quickly. Standing on an old bomb atop his usual go-to hill, Eren was met by his friends Armin and Mikasa. To them, Eren expressed his displeasure with his life as it was, feeling immensely unfulfilled remaining confined within the walls for the entirety of his life and holding a desire to explore the world outside the safety of the walls. In an act of kicking the disabled explosive out of frustration, Eren and his friends discovered artwork on the bomb confirming the existence of the ocean, which motivated the three of them to attempt to get over the walls. Sneaking past the garrison regiment lining around the outermost wall for security, Eren and the others managed to reach the wall, which they found to be much larger in-person. When Mikasa sneezed from the cold air, Eren wrapped his scarf around her neck before urging to start climbing the wall. Armin expressed discontent due to the death penalty from climbing the wall as well as the danger of the Titans waiting outside, prompting Eren to discuss his disgusted disbelief in the existence of the man-eating creatures, proposing that instead, the outside world was possibly paradise. Immediately afterwards, garrison regiment troops arrived to apprehend the trio, enraging Eren into fighting off the men to protect his friends. In the nick of time, Eren's childhood guardian, Souda, arrived and ordered the soldiers to cease their apprehension, saving him and his friends from being arrested. An awkward conversation ensued in which Souda playfully accused Eren of trying to show off the walls to Mikasa, something Souda himself did as a kid with Eren's mother prior to Eren's father winning over her heart. Promptly afterwards, Souda shared with the kids inside knowledge about the government organizing a Scout Regiment with a mission to scout the outside world, lifting up their hopes with the possibility of making a home out there. Suddenly, their glee was erratically stopped when powerful shockwaves rattled the surrounding area, struggling the four people with balancing themselves and sending down tiny pieces of debris. Immediately, Eren determined that the disturbance was coming from outside the wall, after which Mikasa began urging him to get away from the wall. To their horror, a haunting howl emanated from a thick cloud of steam above the wall, from which an enormous head emerged and menacingly looked down on the nearby people. Terrified by the appearance of the unprecedentedly Colossal Titan, Eren and the others fled as the beast returned to kicking the wall, sending forth more shockwaves and launching debris that rained down all over the area within the vicinity. Dodging rocks and fleeing for their lives, Eren and his friends came to a stop behind enormous rubble to look at the damage caused by the Titan. From where the wall was kicked, Eren and the others noticed a massive hole, lighting up the area in daylight and unveiling multiple enormous figures concealed behind a cloud of dust. To the horror of all onlookers, numerous Titans emerged from the hole in the wall and began to slowly approach the nearby humans with predatory looks on their deformed faces. Frozen in fear as the Titans began to devour the helpless humans, Eren and his friends fled for their lives, managing to evade capture from the ravenous monsters as they ran across their hometown to reunite with their families and get to safety. Running for the town church, Eren and Mikasa noticed a lone woman amongst the crowd on her knees and holding onto her child, whom they promptly help up. As Mikasa retrieved the mother's baby, Eren found himself being pushed around by people, getting separated from Mikasa in the process. Forced within the barricaded church, Eren helplessly watched from a window as Mikasa was approached by a female Titan with a completely exposed smile, menacingly laughing and staring at the girl. Before Eren could watch his friend be eaten, a sudden shockwave knocked him down. As he got back up and looked out the window again, the distraught Eren came to the sight of emptiness around the building, managing to get out of the church as he was locked out. Ill-struck with dismay, Eren walked about before turning around to witness Titans breaking into the church and devouring the people inside, causing a river of dark blood to flood from below the locked doors. All alone, Eren mindlessly wandered through the streets of his decimated home town.
Two years later, Eren had enlisted in the military's newfound Scout Regiment and was trained amongst many other survivors of the traumatic event first unfolded in his childhood hometown. In a hearing, Commander Kubal informed the scout regiment of their mission to seal the hole in the outer wall before turning to weapons squad leader Hans to debrief the soldiers of their objective. The mission was to reach the transit point city of Omotemachi in the outermost district, where the scouts would join the recon team there lead by Captain Shikishima. At sunset when the scouts were to begin their departure, Eren walked past some of his comrades as they said their goodbyes to their loved ones, coming to a stop when he reunited with Armin, whose parents were killed in the incident two years prior. At supper, Eren and Armin came upon Souda, who too survived and was happy to see the boys. The three friends exchanged their losses as Eren declared his desired vengeance against the Titans. Minutes later, Eren listened as Armin personally explained the details of the plan behind the mission to Sasha and Hiana. When Jean chimed in on the conversation with outright belittlement of his colleagues, Eren himself intervened by prematurely questioning him whether or not Titans possessed nipples. Bent on confronting Jean for his inflated ego, Eren neared breaking into a fight with him before Hans arrived to answer Eren and to settle down the two men. Following the informed gear check, Eren listened as Jean spoke of a man who allegedly abandoned his lover after seeing a Titan, alluding to Eren himself. Enraged by the accusation of losing Mikasa and his courage with her, Eren instantly charged at Jean with violent intent, only for Sannagi and some if their other comrades to keep him and Jean apart. Soon enough, the scouts boarded trucks for the journey to Omotemachi, intent on arriving there by dawn before the nearby Titans resumed activity. Just before the departure, Eren and Armin bonded with Sannagi over their mutual origination from the farmlands of the outer district. Minimal noise befell the trucks as they left the safety of the middle wall. Along the way, Eren overheard talk of the female squad leader below Captain Shikishima reputed for killing ten Titans in half a year. After some traveling, the vehicles came to a sudden stop when the squad leader sensed something ahead, ordering the scouts to check the nearby area. After nothing aside from some cattle were found, Eren followed Hiana, who apparently heard the sound of a baby somewhere nearby. Drawn to the strange noise, Hiana lead Eren inside an abandoned building, where they initially discovered nothing before eventually, they heard the mysterious baby close by. When a viscous fluid suddenly dripped on Hiana, Eren looked up to see the source. To the horror of both him and Hiana, Eren gazed upon an infant Titan suckling on a human corpse. Gaining the creature's attention, prompting it to fall to the ground in an attempt to grab them, Eren helped Hiana up and they fled for their lives as the distressed baby Titan began wailing. Chaos came about as the wailing awakened the nearby mature Titans, drawing them to the vulnerable numbers of soldiers. After many people were consumed, two mysterious figures appeared and proceeded to kill of a handful of the Titans, one of them turning out to be Captain Shikishima. After killing one last Titan before the eyes of the scouts, the second figure landed down and revealed to be Mikasa herself. Alarmed from the sheer shock of her being alive, Eren watched as she and the captain acknowledged each other before taking off to reunite with the rest of the arrived soldiers. Whilst the trucks were loaded with the explosives, Eren was attacked by Jean for his involvement in inadvertently awakening the nearby Titans, the former being shoved off his feet while Jean called him "suicidal maniac" and began to walk off. Undeterred, Eren snapped back at Jean with "you stink, spoiled brat", followed up by deducing that he wet himself from his fear of the Titans, igniting Jean's rage. Promptly beginning to trade blows with Jean and pushing aside someone who tried to intervene early on, Eren initially struggled with Jean's speed and matching aggression. When Jean caught his leg, Eren exploited this, leveraging himself off the ground and landing a powerful kick on Jean, critically bashing the other man's face with his knee and flooring him as a result. Afterwards, Mikasa pulled him aside with the order of ceasing his fight before walking off. As Eren processed what just had happened, a compliment from Captain Shikishima spooked him back to his feet and they began to converse, following the man to somewhere else to speak one-on-one in private. Questioned about his background, Eren shared with the captain about his orphanhood following the mysterious deaths of his parents when he was very young, afterwards asking Shikishima about Mikasa, prompting him to curiously inquire that Eren himself wanted to learn how to kill Titans as effectively. The conversation soon turned to Eren's motives and how he sought to kill the Titans because of the oppression they posed on humanity, to which Shikishima scoffed at. Reasoning that the "real enemy" was humanity's fear, Shikishima brought forth an analogy between humankind with the Titans and cattle with wolves, evoking Eren to proclaim himself different. With a piece of advise about sacrifice, Shikishima parted from Eren, leaving him alone with himself as he was. Later, Eren found Mikasa playing with an old piano and approached her to reconnect with her, only for Mikasa to reveal her scars to him, internal and external. Eren watched with horror as Mikasa showed a bite mark on her stomach and aloofly expressed her apathetic viewpoint of the "cruel" world they live in. Afterwards, Shikishima made his presence known and walked up to Mikasa with an apple on hand, affectionately offering it to her and embracing her from behind, from which Eren walked off in heartbreak. Walking outside, Eren clamped to his head and screamed in agony, tormented by his hurt emotions until Hiana silenced him before dragging him back inside to counsel him. Eren promptly explained his severed relationship with Mikasa to Hiana, and in turn, Hiana shared with him her enlisting into the military to provide for her infant daughter, just as their comrades Fukushi and Lil began to make love nearby. Eren soon found himself subject to an attempt of seduction from Hiana, who asked if he would become her daughter's father. Before she could kiss him, Eren noticed a colossal eye unveiling and looking at them. In an instant, the frozen Eren watched as a Titan pulled Hiana away in its mouth and swallowed her whole. Promptly afterwards, as Titans began to fill the streets of Omotemachi, Eren retrieved his ODM gear and fled for higher ground in order to escape. Getting to a roof, Eren made it in time to witness the truck carrying the explosives drive into a group of Titans while its cargo was lit aflame, resulting in an explosion that knock Eren off his feet and sent large chunks of flesh near him. Afterwards, Eren took notice of Jean nearby on the same roof, who waddled in despair from the situation. After they witnessed another one of their comrades being consumed by a Titan, Eren stopped Jean in his tracks in he was about to take the opportunity to escape. Suddenly recalling his conversation with Shikishima earlier, Eren left Jean as he was and took off, intent on confronting the nearby Titans himself. As Shikishima watched, Eren flew across the air around a group of Titans and progressively learned to fight them, adapting accordingly to Shikishima's advice on the fly. After two attempts or so, Eren successfully sliced one Titan's nape, claiming his first Titan kill. At first, Eren looked on behind him in pride before finding himself suddenly flying at a Titan's mouth, getting caught by his leg in its jaws before it swung him around and inadvertently threw him. His leg ripped off in the process, Eren flew across a distance away from the Titans before landing on an empty roof, agonizing in pain. Not too long later, Eren witnessed as Armin was captured by a Titan, which stood up and began to bring him towards its mouth. Exerting himself, Eren dragged himself forward in spite of his injury towards the edge of the roof before determinedly forcing himself onto one knee as Armin was placed in the monster's mouth. Before Armin would be swallowed, Eren got to him and grabbed his hand in the nick of time, holding the Titan's mouth open with his other hand. With all of his strength, Eren flung Armin out of the Titan's mouth, sliding down its tongue as he locked eyes with Armin for one last moment before the Titan clamped its jaws, severing his arm in the process. In an instant, Eren slid down the monster's esophagus and landed in its stomach, where he found himself chest-deep in gastric juices, surrounded by the bodies of other unfortunate people. Nearby, Eren noticed the half-floating corpse of Hiana, pulling her up enough to discover the Titan's digestive enzymes beginning to dissolve the skin off of half her face. Staring at her peeling skin in his hand and holding onto her body, Eren screamed off loudly as he declared that he'll wipe out all of the Titans.
In the meantime, Eren's severed arm was shown to Mikasa by Armin, who dropped it after she took off to clear her comrades an escape route. Unbeknownst to everyone, Eren's arm began to steam.
Minutes later, Mikasa crashed to the ground near the same Titan that ate Eren, which found itself nauseous and aching from within. Noticing Mikasa, the beast was about to approach her when it proceeded to gag and moan in pain. Suddenly, two enormous hands emerged from the Titan's mouth before tearing the head in two, giving way for a glowing green explosion to obliterate the rest of the Titan's body. From the epicenter emerged another Titan, this one possessing shaggy black hair and glowing orange all over its being. The newly manifested Titan proceeded to ferociously bellow at the sky before the eyes of the Titans and onlooking soldiers nearby. Turning to the other Titans, the Mysterious Titan charged forward and brutally decapitated another Titan with a punch. Regenerating its arm and hand in an instant, the Mysterious Titan walked forward before finishing off the still living Titan before it with a gory stomp to the neck, obliterating the weak spot. Finding itself surrounded by more incoming Titans, the Mysterious Titan bellowed a challenge and loomed forward as it found itself under attack by another Titan, which it dispatched with a powerful decapitating punch, striking fear into the witnessing Titans. The Mysterious Titan proceeded to decapitate another Titan with an uppercut to the head before engaging with two additional Titans, quickly disposing of one with physical blows before being forced by the second to swiftly plunge its jaws onto its enemy's nape, killing the second Titan as it gorily tore off the weak spot. The Mysterious Titan continued fighting more Titans, killing another by tearing off its nape via its jaws. Afterwards, the Mysterious Titan grabbed two Titans by the necks before forcibly slamming them down on a building, shattering the structure and fatally ripping off the two Titans' napes with its bare hands. After a ferocious victory cry, the Mysterious Titan noticed the soldiers on the nearby roof, aggressively approaching them and shattering the rooftop exit with a punch. Staring at Mikasa for a moment, the Mysterious Titan retrieved its hand before grabbing Mikasa with the other, holding her in front of it. In an instant, the Titan recognized Mikasa before it began to stagger, dropping Mikasa back onto the roof and reeling up before collapsing to the ground in a big thud. The soldiers promptly surrounded the lying Titan as Souda instructed for its nape to be opened without damaging its contents before the Titan could absorb the person inside and their cells fuse. After a clean slice to the nape from Mikasa, Eren emerged from the Titan enveloped in stretchy transparent flesh. Falling to the ground, Eren lied unconscious and curled up, his leg and arm fully regenerated from their earlier severances. After a moment, Eren's eyes opened, glowing red.
Attack on Titan the Movie: Part 2
Years prior to present day events, when Eren was an infant, his father developed a serum, which was administered to Eren's body via needle just as Souda joined them, followed by the arrival Eren's mother, who disapprovingly berated Eren's father for testing his work on Eren and his brother. Suddenly, a knock on the door sounded, bringing panic to the family, who immediately knew that it was the authorizes. As Eren's father tried to conceal his work, Eren was handed over to Souda, who promised his mother that he'll take care of Eren. Stowed away in a secret passage that was to be his means of escape, Eren watched with Souda through small openings as Military Police troops filled up the house and began to attack his parents, almost giving away their locations when he yelled for his mother after she was knocked to the ground. As they watched helplessly, Eren's parents were taken away and Commander Kubal set fire to the premises.
In the present day, Eren woke up to find himself looming over the ground wrapped in chains and gagged, just as Military Police troops took aim at him with their guns. Unsettled, Eren began to squirm, only for the sound of Commander Kubal's voice to stop him as he is. After the man monologued about how humanity was brought to peace through the construction of the walls, he began to interrogate Eren, who was relieved of his gag. Eren responded to Kubal's question by deeming himself human, though Kubal retaliated by remarking that if a human lost their limb, it will not regenerate back. Confused, Eren looked down at his feet, one of which was exposed, bringing back to memory that his leg was torn off by a Titan. Eren continued to declare himself human, only for him to be gaslighted by Kubal's words and his friends remained silent without muttering a word in defense of him. Seemingly alone, Eren faced death as Kubal gave the order for him to be shot. To everyone's surprise, Armin began to speak up for Eren, defending him and acknowledging that Eren had cleared out the Titans in the nearby area, which Eren managed to recall from while he was in his Titan form. Armin continued to speak on Eren's behalf before Hans chimed in as well, expressing that Eren posed significant scientific value as a potential object of study. Unconvinced, Kubal questioned how the hole in the wall could be sealed up now given that the last of the explosives had been prematurely used by Lil in her unwise act of vengeance against some Titans. After a moment of thought, Armin displayed revelation on his face as an idea came to him, which Mikasa determined to be the dud bomb on Eren's old go-to hill back in Monzen. Undeterred, Kubal revealed about a rebellion that planned to destroy the government from within, accusing Armin and Eren of being rebels. At disclosure, Kubal ordered his troops to take aim at Eren once more. In response, Armin asked Mikasa if she planned on "abandoning" Eren, only for her to give no response. As a result, Armin demanded for himself to be shot for his heart was where he wanted it, troubling Eren with the fear of the soldiers going through with his friend's self-sacrifice. Infuriated, Eren bad-mouthed Kubal for his callous indifference, proclaiming that he once thought his life had no value given his seemingly fate to remain within the walls forever, expressing that now he knows what he has to do. To Eren's fortunate, his words sparked in Mikasa her protectiveness of him, leaving her to draw her blade in his defense. Afterwards, Souda chimed into the discussion to protect Eren as well, starting to share with everyone some of the intricacies behind Eren's brain functions in his Titan form. All of the sudden, Eren watched with horror as Souda was shot, which occurred when Kubal used his switch whip to pull the trigger of a nearby soldier's gun. Eren watched as Souda spent his dying breath trying to reveal to him his brother, leaving Eren shocked and confused as he looked around, stopping a Kubal. Glaring at him with angry eyes, Eren faced death as Kubal gave the order to shoot, only for the ceiling above to collapse as a Titan suddenly came down to the people below. Eren watched as Kubal was buried under rubble and the nearby armed soldiers were brutally dispatched the new-come Titan, who looked at him before grabbing him in his hand. In the ensuing chaos, Eren watched as many of his colleagues were ruthlessly killed before his eyes. When Mikasa stood in front of her comrades to protect them, the Titan refrained from further attack, carrying Eren away and resealing the ceiling opening with rubble.
Some time later, Eren came to, woken up by the mysterious sound of music playing nearby, finding himself in an empty white room paneled with windows in the walls and on the ceiling. In one of the corners of the room, Eren discovered the source of the music in the form of a jukebox, a music playing device preserved from the time before the Titan war. Just as he was looking at the age old contraption, Eren was spooked by the sudden voice of Shikishima, who was leaning against the wall on the other side of the room, bottle of wine in hand and the jukebox's song on his mind. Shikishima promptly explained how he followed the Titan that kidnapped Eren before managing to save him, the Titan having managed to escape. After a moment of gratitude, Eren was caught off guard as the ceiling started playing film footage of some mysterious military experiments where human test subjects were accidentally transformed into Titans. As explained by Shikishima, Eren was unveiled the backstory of the Titans, horrified by the understanding that the Titans themselves are human and how a group of survivors were forced into self-imprisonment to survive. In the birth of this new society, the government that came to power constructed many rooms like the one Eren and Shikishima were currently in, using them to monitor the people and to conceal the truth behind humanity's past. Minutes later, Shikishima revealed to Eren how the government took advantage of the destruction of the outer wall, which occurred right when the scouting mission was in development, when fear of the Titans was at its lowest and in turn, the people's loyalty to the government was at its lowest as well. In but a mere moment, Shikishima exposed the corruption and manipulation within the government, a central power bent on sacrificing numerous lives in order to preserve society's current way of life. Swayed by the captain's confidence in him, Eren joined Shikishima's cause and followed the man out on a mission to bring forth change to society and put an end to the government's ways. Eren promptly followed Shikishima outside, where like-minded survivors of the scout corps gathered before the two men. Before taking off for the outer wall, Eren took a moment to look out upon the ruins of Monzen, his childhood hometown, afterwards joining Shikishima and the rebellion in an old military vessel, which departed into the town.
Some time later, the rebellion suddenly came upon the Scout Regiment as they were transporting the dud missile through Monzen, reuniting Eren with his friends, to everyone's glee. Unfortunately, Eren bore witness as Shikishima revealed his real plan; using the dud missile and the rebellion's explosives to destroy the inner walls, permitting the Titans to overrun the people within, forcibly destroying the government and uniting all of the remaining humanity, ushering in a new era. Taken aback by the truth behind the captain's intentions, Eren objected to Shikishima's vision under the reason that the people themselves were innocent, evoking Shikishima's verbal wrath. Eren faced belittlement as Shikishima called out on his successful killing of Titans, by definition killing innocent humans in a twist of technicality. Asserting the purpose of destroying the government and liberating all of humanity, Shikishima accidentally evoked Eren's drive by reaffirming the point of sacrifice, bringing to mind his numerous losses and trauma. Rejuvenated by his will to protect his loved ones, Eren screamed in rage and declared his will to keep Shikishima away from achieving his goal. Promptly afterwards, Eren drew his blade and charged at Shikishima, who swiftly knocked Eren over, disarming him in the process. Getting up, Eren faced struggle as Shikishima began to overwhelm him with his superior combat skills and verbal bullying, leaving him on the ground bleeding from his mouth and somewhat demoralized. Getting up again, Eren persisted even as Shikishima continued to bloodily beat him and demoralize him, which lead to Shikishima acknowledging Mikasa and dragging her into the discussion. Eren watched in pain as Shikishima forcibly kissed Mikasa, knocking her down and kicking her in the stomach when she retaliated by slapping him in the face. Further enraged, the scarred Eren got back up yet again and screamed in rage, tearing off his cloak and attacking Shikishima with a newfound fire within him, only for Shikishima to relentlessly overpower him. Eren faced death as Shikishima prepared to finish him off by impaling his sword through the chest, only to be saved when Sasha threw an apple at the captain and drew his attention to Armin holding onto the charge for the missile, allowing for Jean and Sannagi to retrieve Eren. With great sadness, Eren screamed for Sannagi as his comrade sacrificed himself to allow the others to escape by pulling down an unstable structure onto the rebellion forces at the cost of his life. As the structure crashed down on the rebellion's stash of explosives, Eren began to mourn Sannagi's death with his friends, only for the moment to be cut short when Shikishima revealed himself to have escaped the explosion with them by latching onto the back of their truck. Eren armed himself alongside Jean to face the captain, just for Shikishima to impale his own heart and cause enormous bones to envelop his being before their eyes. Witnessing Shikishima transform into the very Titan that kidnapped him earlier, Eren promptly decided that he's to fend off the enemy in his Titan form while the others completed the mission, preparing to impale himself in replication of Shikishima's transformation and thus transform back into his own Titan. Unfortunately, Jean persuaded Eren to pursue their otherwise option of confronting Shikishima together, using their unity as their strength. When Mikasa took her scarf off of her arm and wrap it around her neck, Eren took notice and listened as Mikasa redeclared her feelings for him. Before the rebounded couple could rejoice however, Titans began to emerge from the opening in the wall. After witnessing Shikishima demonstrate his Titan's power by brutally dispatching two standard Titans in an instant, Eren lead his friends as they took off to swarm Shikishima and target his weak spots. After his friends helped to give him an opening, Eren's slashed Shikishima's ankles, forcing him to his knees and buying Jean the chance to finish him off. Unfortunately, Shikishima took notice and prepared to smite Jean in mid-air, prompting Eren to intercept and knock his comrade aside, taking the blow himself instead and being sent flying into a nearby building.
Just as Shikishima was about to retrieve the missile, Eren's sudden transformation obliterated the surrounding building in a powerful explosion, emerging in his Titan form and booming a roar at the sky. Looking to Shikishima fists armed, Eren charged at the captain and they quickly broke into combat, Eren himself managing to throw two failed punches before Shikishima began to overpower him. Receiving blow after blow, Eren was swiftly pummeled to the ground, facing a brief knockout when Shikishima kicked him in the face. Downed and stunned, Eren faced defeat as Shikishima approached him, only for him to instantly rejuvenate. Turning to a nearby helicopter, Eren pulled off the vehicle's propeller blades and lodged the makeshift weapon into the side of Shikishima's neck, cleaving into his Titan's torso. Eren then proceeded to dislodge the blade, drawing tremendous blood and stunning Shikishima with the pain. Afterwards, Eren sent his foot into Shikishima's torso, planting his foot on his opponent's bladder. When it seemed like his kick was for nothing, Jean recognized Eren's technique from when it was he on the receiving end, enlightening the others. In a furious burst of rage, Eren launched himself upwards and struck Shikishima with a kick so powerful, it generated a shockwave and gorily decapitated Shikishima's Titan. Exploding the other Titan's head and sending the body falling into a nearby building, sending it crumbling, Eren looked to the sky before bellowing a ferocious victory cry. Shikishima vanquished, Eren turned towards the nearby missile while his friends removed its restrains. While Armin instructed him in advance, Eren carefully grappled the missile and looked to the top of the wall, looking at the spot where he could lodge the missile in place. Before Eren could actually lift the missile off the truck however, Jean questioned if Eren could understand what is being said. To answer the matter, Eren boomed a painfully loud roar at Jean and Armin, comically causing them agony and evoking a complaint from the former. On Armin's signal, Eren lifted the missile off the truck and wrapped the explosive's makeshift strap around himself, carrying the missile with him as he approached the wall. Now faced with climbing the wall, Eren set himself to the task and made his way up the structure without threatening premature detonation of the missile. Unfortunately, as Eren gained in on the top of the wall, he grew exhausted from slugging his Titan's weight through the tedious physical activity. Reaching the crack in the wall on top, Eren took the missile off his back and began to lodge it in place, only for his exertion to catch up to him all of the sudden. Losing his grip and beginning to slide down the wall while accidentally taking the missile with him, Eren lost consciousness, posing the threat of falling down and jeopardizing the mission. While his Titan barely clung onto the wall for dear life, Mikasa came to the rescue and landed on his nape and before plunging her blade into it, poking open a hole through which she spoke to him, reminding him of his promise to take her to see the ocean. Rejuvenated by Mikasa's words, Eren regained consciousness and gasped for air, regaining his strength and resuming the task of lodging the missile into the crack in the wall. Succeeding in his job, Eren collapsed forward, hanging onto the wall as his body began to disintegrate. As Armin got to work arming the missile and setting a timer for its detonation, Eren was retrieved from his Titan by Mikasa, who rested him against the wall. Armin having set the timer to detonate the missile in five minutes, Eren was helped up by Mikasa and Jean, beginning to take their leave when they were stopped in their tracks by the sudden appearance of Kubal, who somehow survived the initial skirmish with Shikishima's Titan. Impressed by the group's success, Kubal offered Eren's friends luxurious aristocratic lives within the inner walls in exchange for their continued protection over the walls as well as handing Eren himself over to the government, which Armin declined in protection of Eren. Sadistically amused by Armin's response, Kubal opened fire on the group, managing to shoot Armin in the leg in the process, to the dismay of the others. Eren opposed the commander once more, expressing him and his friends' shared desire to see the outside world as it is, to the pessimistic disapproval of Kubal. Undeterred by Kubal's words regarding the outside world, Eren stood up and declared that he would deter "slavery in heaven" to "freedom in hell", making his stand on his ideals. Just as Kubal continued their back to back banter, Sasha fired arrows at him, shutting him up and sending him careening off the wall on the outside. Suddenly, a glowing red explosion manifested on the other side of the wall, launching up a cloud of steam and unleashing an all familiar siren-like shriek before Eren and his friends. To their dismay, the commander emerged from the steam as the Colossal Titan, the very Titan responsible for penetrating the wall 2 years earlier and thus catalyzing all the loss and suffering from since then. As they bore their eyes on the behemoth, Eren explained to his friends what Shikishima had revealed to him regarding the nature of the government and its oppressive methods. Determined to deal with the dictator, Eren demanded functional ODM gear, which his friends fulfilled before they began their assault on the Colossal Titan. Bent on avenging the countless lives lost because of the dictator's actions, Eren, Mikasa, and Jean flew up to the Colossal Titan before barely dodging a swipe of the giant's arm, promptly finding themselves troubled by their target's scorching body heat. As Sasha helped Armin down the wall away to safety, Eren and the others witnessed the Colossal Titan swat at the missile they lodged into the wall, jeopardizing their intended purpose for it. Flying at the Colossal Titan in rage, Eren and Jean faced another swat from the Titan, who proceeded to send it hand into Jean in mid-air, splattering him to blood upon impact. Screaming in dismay over his friend's sudden death, Eren flew at the Colossal Titan's face in rage, recklessly putting himself within range of being grabbed. As the Colossal Titan was about to grab him and smush him in its hand, a bazooka sent by Hans flew in and exploded on the Titan's face, causing it to miss Eren as it toppled in pain. As the injured Colossal Titan collapsed onto the wall all while still clawing at the ticking missile, Eren flew around and landed on its back, beginning to make his way over to its unprotected nape. As the timer for the missile reached its peak, Mikasa came to him to get him out of the blast vicinity. Eren stubbornly refused to leave, driven by vengeance for Jean and everyone indirectly killed by the Colossal Titan, though he proceeded to take cover regardless. Just when the timer was up, the missile didn't explode, its detonator having been damaged by the Colossal Titan's skirmish. As Mikasa left to try to fix the missile, Eren decidedly continued his way over to the Colossal Titan's nape, damaging both his boots and his blades in the process. Reaching the nape, Eren replaced one blade before plunging it straight into the flesh, pulling his weapon down and slicing the nape open, exposing Kubal's position enough to potentially kill him as he is. Eren raised his sword and screamed in prevalence before his shouting alerted the commander to his vicinity, resulting in Eren being picked off by the Colossal Titan and brought before its face. Eren fearfully squirmed within the Titan's grasp as it menacingly laughed and prepped to kill him with its other hand. In the nick of time however, Shikishima came up in his Titan form, carrying the missile to the top of the wall and prompting the Colossal Titan to drop Eren. As he began to fall, Eren witnessed as Shikishima leapt up to the Colossal Titan's face and plunged the missile into its mouth. Eren watched as the resulting explosion blew up the Colossal Titan's head, killing both Shikishima and Kubal in the process. As the blast ignited certain elements and thus produced a follow-up explosion, Eren scaled down the wall in danger of being hit by debris, only to be knocked off balance and sent careening towards the ground below. But before he could fall to his death however, Eren was suddenly grabbed by Mikasa, who pulled him up to safety, missing the debris and taking him to the top of the wall. There, Eren and Mikasa feasted their eyes upon the outside world, gazing upon a beautiful ruined cityscape with the ocean at the edge of the glowing horizon. As a moment of satiating the sight passed however, Eren declared that things were now beginning, alluding to the change of everything.
In the post-credits scene, unbeknownst to Eren, it is revealed that someone is spying on him and Mikasa through a camera. Exchanged dialogue with another mysterious voice reveals that the ones watching the camera footage are from the government, intrigued by Eren and Mikasa's success.

Transformation
Eren can transform between his natural Human form and his extensional Titan form. Requiring prior injury and a psychological motive, Eren can willfully trigger a transformation in which his Titan's bones and organs begin to manifest around his being, gradually developing into an enormous extension of himself that houses his human body inside the nape, enveloped in flesh and fluid. Whether it be through will or physical exertion, Eren can cease his Titan's functionality, severing his neural link to it and allowing for him to exit the Titan while it slowly disintegrates. Transitioning out of the Titan form poses the danger of Eren's cells assimilating into the Titan's body, threatening him to disintegrate with the rest of the Titan should he not be extracted from it in time. Any excess flesh attached to Eren following his timely exit will simply melt away like candle wax.
Human Form

As himself, Eren is a skilled, capable individual most renowned for his pain tolerance and will to fight, making him stand out from his peers.
Physical abilities
Even before joining the military, Eren is a natural in hand to hand combat, standing his ground against multiple trained soldiers with little to no struggle. As Souda puts it to Jean later in the film, Eren has always been good at fighting. It is established early on in the beginning of the film that he once held a job as a guard, which he ironically lost after he got into a fight.
After receiving military training for two years, Eren became one of, if not the most formidable member of the new Scout Regiment. The one time that they broke into a fight without being stopped, Eren stood his ground against the slightly swifter Jean, briefly struggling until he began to take the offense, tricking Jean into catching his leg before leveraging his own weight to lift himself up and unleash a powerful kick, pulling Jean's head forward as he bashed his knee in the face. This highly successful attack drew a lot of blood from Jean and temporarily dislocated his jaw. With his kicking technique, Eren had earned the interest and admiration of Captain Shikishima. Most impressively, Eren at one point held open the mouth of a large Titan, forcing up its upper jaw with one hand while lugging out Armin with the other.
In the second film, Eren consistently challenged Shikishima, progressively adapting to his superior strength and combat skills, which would eventually allow him to triumph over Shikishima towards the climax of their fight in their Titan forms.

Endurance
Eren is heavily defined by his tenacity and pain tolerance, with the only one proving capable of overcoming his endurance being Shikishima with his strength and immense brutality. Trained soldiers often fail to overcome Eren with force, including multiple Garrison Regiment troops, and later Jean. Eren's will to endure pain is first tested when he accidentally flew into the jaws of a Titan, who proceeded to fling him across the air, severing his leg and sending him flying onto a rooftop about a city block away. Despite suffering heavy blood loss, Eren dragged himself to the edge of the rooftop before flying to the mouth of a Titan, where he exerted himself to save Armin, holding open the Titan's jaws and lugging out his friend despite the extent of his physical taxation. Not too long later, after being swallowed alive by the Titan, Eren remained persistent in its stomach enough to trigger his Titan transformation.
In the second film, Eren faced multiple beatings from Shikishima, each one gorier and more brutal than the last, yet persevered more and more. Later, Eren took a smite from Shikishima's Titan, surviving the blow enough to transform into his Titan form. Despite exerting himself in the subsequent fight as well as climbing up the wall, Eren managed to succeed in lodging a missile into a crack near the top of the wall, tapping into his mental strength after some words from Mikasa rejuvenated him, allowing him to complete his task.
Weaknesses
Though formidable in hand-to-hand combat, Eren was incapacitated by Sannagi, who easily picked him up and held him still on his shoulder, effectively stopping Eren from attacking Jean. Similarly, Mikasa easily tugged on Eren and pushed him to the ground to put him back in line following his beating of Jean. Prior to this, Eren temporarily struggled against Jean's combat speed and sufficient competence. In the first film, Eren initially required guidance from Shikishima to properly utilize his ODM gear and to kill Titans. After successfully killing one, Eren became absorbed in the moment, leaving him unprepared when he inadvertently flew into a Titan's jaws, which would lead to the loss of his leg. Though his Titan form allowed his limbs to regenerate, Eren's utilization of the massive being taxed his stamina to the point that he lost consciousness following his first emergence from his Titan. Aside from his physical limits, Eren has demonstrated limited self-control, which has resulted in moments of disfavor and vulnerability both in and out of combat.
In the second film, Eren consistently lost to Shikishima in their skirmishes, overwhelmed by his strength as well as his superiority in skills and wits. The task of climbing the wall exhausted Eren to the point of losing consciousness, which in turn threatened to cause his Titan form to fall down with the missile he was carrying, jeopardizing him and his friends' mission. In the final confrontation with Commander Kubal as the Colossal Titan, Eren caused himself much harm trying to walk across the behemoth's neck to reach the nape, resulting in his boots burning and him suffering in the intense body heat. Though Eren survived being smite by Shikishima's Titan thanks to his transformation, it is likely that he wouldn't have been able to do the same with the Colossal Titan given its exponentially greater physical power.
Titan Form

Eren's Titan form possesses the standard attributes and abilities of Titans as a whole, most obviously their size and their regenerative powers. However, Eren's Titan stands out from standard Titans with its superior strength and Eren's retained conscious.
Strength and Combat Skills
Courtesy of its size and physically fit build, Eren Titan's stands superior to standard Titans in terms of strength and athleticism, made evident when he brutally killed a handful of them with his physical blows and brutality. While throwing punches and kicks that sent the other Titans crashing into surrounding buildings, Eren at one point jumped incredibly high, allowing him to inflict a side kick at his body height and land back down on his feet with ease. Eren's brutish tactics resulted in many Titans being decapitated or exploded, sometimes lethally given their napes were completely destroyed in the process.
Whereas standard Titans were helpless against Shikishima's Titan form, Eren's Titan form was able to put up a fight against whom even with inferior brawn. Through his punches, Eren gorily shattered his own fists. After he was temporarily knocked down, Eren tapped into his mental strength again, giving him a second wind with which he effortlessly ripped off a nearby Helicopter's propeller. Using it as a makeshift blade, Eren cleaved deep into his opponent, slicing deep from the side of the neck down to the stomach, nearly cutting off Shikishima's Titan arm as a result. Dislodging the blade a little, Eren spilled much blood from Shikishima and left him open to attack. Planting one foot on Shikishima's bladder, Eren replicated the kicking technique that he had previously used on Jean. With one powerful kick to the face, Eren struck Shikishima with enough force to brutally explode his head, send him into a building crumbling down, and generate a shockwave that rattled the surrounding environment. Following the mighty triumph, Eren easily lifted up a massive missile onto his back like a satchel and managed to climb up the 100-meter tall wall without initial struggle. When Eren lost consciousness due to physical exertion, his Titan body managed to somehow hang onto the wall in spite of it. After some words from Mikasa rejuvenated him, Eren successfully lodged the missile into place, completing his mission.

Weaknesses
Though menacingly powerful and deadly, Eren's Titan form faced some resistance when fighting standard Titans, having to shift his efforts between individuals and knocking them aside until he can effectively kill them. Though he was strong enough to kill or temporarily incapacitate some Titans with mere punches, Eren shattered his fists in doing so and had to regenerate them before continuing his massacre. During his first use of the Titan, Eren had limited control, causing him to turn to his friends with aggression after the nearby Titans were wiped out or scared off. Eren required time to recognize Mikasa, needing to hold her in front of him and hear her voice to regain his memories and exit his Titan form. After falling down unconscious, Eren was in danger of being assimilated and absorbed by his Titan's cells, requiring his friends to immediately remove him from the nape before he could merge and disintegrate with his Titan. Though his eyes briefly opened for a moment, Eren remained unconscious for some time, waking up to find himself in chains and held at gunpoint.
Though he retains his skills in his Titan form, Eren was incapable of defeating Shikishima in his Titan form, his opponent's body armor causing his fists to gorily shatter and allowing to inflict damaging physical blows of his own. After a barrage of violent hits, Eren was temporarily knocked down and required a moment to recover. Even after that, he required a makeshift weapon to effectively beat Shikishima. After climbing to the top of the wall, Eren ceased physical activity as a result of exerting himself, needing Mikasa to carefully poke a hole into his nape and verbally remind him of their dreams in order to rejuvenate him.

Trivia
- Eren's Titan form in other Attack on Titan media, the Attack Titan, displays distinct abilities that were not demonstrated by his Titan in the two live-action films, including: the ability to foresee the future, to peer into the memories of previous and future Attack Titan yielders, and even greater regenerative capabilities. Additional abilities possessed by Eren's Titan are resultant of consuming foreign substances, often the direct or indirect ingestion of other Titan shifters.
- In the live-action films, Eren's Titan form has red eyes with black sclera. In other Attack on Titan media, Eren's Titan typically has green eyes with white sclera.
- Eren's last name in other media from the franchise, Yaeger/Yeager, is pronounced the same way as the name of the giant robots in the Pacific Rim franchise, Jaegers.
