According to this Wikipedia article, the mass-energy of the observable universe is equivalent to 4x1069 joules. Their source is an article from an astrophysicist posted by NASA.
The Proton Scream number, 4.10x1080, divided by 4x1069 equals about 102 billion. Is this wrong?
Ahh, I'm so sorry for the late reply! I somehow didn't see this until now.
"4.10 x 1080 (12^16)" joules would actually equal 195 gigatons of TNT, which is much less than the mass energy of the observable universe. I see that you since edited the section to suggest that the 80 in 1080 is actually meant to be an exponent, in which case it would indeed be an absurdly large figure comparable to the universe's mass energy. Either way, I don't think the figure on the pamphlet should be taken too seriously.
Yeah, in the same pamphlet, Godzilla’s atomic breath yield is written as “3.15 x 1040 (10 to the 40).” For whatever reason, they couldn’t write exponents so they have to indicate it parenthetically. So Mechagodzilla’s is “4.10 x 1080 (12 to the 16),” which is mismatched. They either mistyped 1216 as 1080 or 10 to the 80 as 12 to the 16. I prefer to think it is 1216 because the alternative is ridiculous.
3.15 x 10^40 is orders of magnitudes larger than even 195 gigatons. There isn't even a metric prefix that goes to the 40th power. I think it tried to reuse the 3.15 x 10^12 figure from the film's opening (which itself is questionable since it was copied from a Popular Mechanics article).
It's a shame that the pamphlet and film have so many nonsense figures when at the same time the temperature of Mechagodzilla's punches at 3400 Celcius is perfectly reasonable and in-line with the setting. The poor veracity of the other stats call the reliability of 3400C into question.
